APPENDIX VII: OPEN SURVEY & BRIEF ON-SITE QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS NAPERVILLE PARK DISTRICT INDOOR RECREATION SPACE NEEDS ASSESSMENT

RESULTS OF THE BRIEF ON-SITE QUESTIONNAIRE A short version of the full-length survey was distributed at the open house events that occurred on Sunday, June 2nd at Frontier Sports Complex in conjunction with the Frontier Kite Fly event and on Tuesday, June 10th at Fort Hill Activity Center. A series of six closed and open-ended questions were asked. First, respondents were asked to rate their interest in 14 indoor recreation facility amenities and then rate how well their needs are met for these amenities. Respondents were also asked to rate their willingness to pay additional property taxes to expand indoor recreation facilities in Naperville. Then, respondents were asked open-ended questions to assess what the Naperville Park District does well, areas of improvement, program ideas, and any additional feedback. In total, 402 residents completed the on-site brief questionnaire. The results are summarized below. RECREATION FACILITY INTERESTS A pool for swim lessons emerged as the most popular facility, with 73% (N=293) of respondents expressing a very high interest and another 13% (N=52) showing interest. This strong preference highlights a significant demand for swimming facilities within the community. Interest in health/fitness spaces and the lap pool and water park with slides, tubes, etc. were also noteworthy. Health/Fitness spaces captured the attention of 46% (N=185) who were very interested and 26% (N=105) who were interested. The lap pool drew 67% (N=269) very interested responses and 15% (N=60) interested responses. A water park is of interest to 72% of respondents and a warm water therapy pool is of interest to 71% of respondents. For facilities like walking/jogging tracks and gym courts, the interest levels were also high. Walking/Jogging tracks had 45% (N=181) very interested and 31% (N=125) interested respondents. Gym Courts had 44% (N=177) very interested and 27% (N=109) interested respondents, indicating these are valued spaces for physical activity in the community. Fifty-six percent of respondents indicated an interested spray/splash water play features and there was moderate interest in theater/performance spaces and social spaces with 38% (N=152) who rated them as very interested or interested. Synthetic turf fields, multi-purpose rooms, and general program spaces received mixed ratings. Turf fields had 28% (N=113) very interested and 19% (N=76) interested, while multi-purpose rooms had 16% (N=64) very interested and 20% (N=80) interested. General program spaces garnered interest from a total of 52% (N=209) of the respondents. Respondents also wrote in additional facilities they are interested in the Park District adding. Many respondents wrote in that they wanted a pool and/or lap pool, along with tennis courts (particularly indoor tennis), indoor soccer, and indoor baseball. Several respondents requested more space for arts and crafts.
