APPENDIX VIII: OPEN-ENDED FEEDBACK NAPERVILLE PARK DISTRICT INDOOR RECREATION SPACE NEEDS ASSESSMENT
13
My personal interest is in (1) line dance, (2) pickleball. I'm not aware whether those programs are offered. Gymnastics: classes shouldn’t be limited to little kids, there should be more possibilities for older kids with different levels of skills (novice) and the opportunity to choose floor only (no beams). Soccer Programs: there should be opportunities for teenagers or older kids to continue their soccer training far beyond after reaching 6th grade. Middle Schools: should all have mandatory (by general health and mental health recommendation) a playground for teenagers, which are specially designed for their height and different abilities and interests. Parks: should have simple outdoor fitness equipment for adults. Would love to use the pottery studio, but with very limited hours and programming it is not possible. Also, would love to see an indoor or outdoor flag football activity option in Naperville as other local park districts do offer this and we have to travel outside Naperville to participate in a high- quality football program. I prefer in person rather than virtual. More senior type classes for those of us trying our best to be active would be wonderful. Fees (N = 5) Although the programs can be very affordable, they add up and can become very expensive. Fort Hill open gym costs are too expensive. Open gyms should be free to all residents. Lacrosse program offerings were super expensive. Volleyball offering thought EVP was poor. I don't use the indoor facilities or programs because I haven't found one that fits my needs or budget. I can often not afford programs or get into the kids programs. Staff/ Program Directors (N =2) In the past 5 years (give or take), I have seen a lack of leadership from program directors, where they have taken a position that each and every parent is part of a problem rather than a solution or compromise. The program directors seem to lack the professional manner to approach questions, criticisms and/or suggestions. They are blatant enough to be disrespectful in writing, whether it be emails, or communications from their staff. I have experienced this in both indoor youth basketball and youth premier soccer. To be frank, the attitude and lack of leadership has turned me, my family and neighbors off from NPD youth activities. When I have had issues with park district soccer registration in the past the staff was not courteous and helpful as you could anticipate in that situation.
Miscellaneous (N = 11)
Naperville has little crime, so I feel safe everywhere in Naperville. Although it did not comment considering garden plots, my garden did suffer without the pine needle mulch there. Or could we be allowed to use the park district wood chips since there is no other mulch available. And the gravel roads are full of holes. I heard the Fort Hill center is full of teens so using weights, so I am reluctant to buy a membership. I have not used their faculties in a long time pre-covid.
