Common themes from residents were apparent from the open houses and the questionnaire. An interesting common theme per the input received was the desire to maintain and expand indoor recreation program opportunities for children and adults with special needs. Some feedback included the following: “I am a parent with three adult children. Two have moved away but our young adult with special needs remains home with us. Thank you for partnering with WDSRA.” “More space for these programs for special needs kids and young adults.” “More special needs programs.” Other common themes were gathered from the open house questionnaire. Many residents commented on the lack of available gymnasium space for basketball. Below are a few questionnaire comments provided by residents related to basketball. “Not enough youth basketball spots, if we need more courts let’s build more.” “More basketball courts for youth basketball games and practices.” “Basketball space is extremely limited and unfortunately limits all interested children from participating.” Many residents also commented on the lack of available gymnastics space. Below are a few questionnaire comments related to gymnastics from community members. “Would like to see youth basketball & gymnastics programs improved/expanded.” “Additional gymnastics space that doesn’t allow for several classes to go on at the same time.” “The gymnastics program is great, but very hard to get into. NPD could expand on it and will get plenty of interest.” Lastly, a common theme shared by residents was a need for indoor aquatics. Below are a few questionnaire comments related to aquatics from community members. “Two indoor pools have been closed in Naperville over the past year. Need more lap pools.” “Pool for swimming in winter.” “Indoor family swim pool with warm temperature.” For residents who wanted to provide input on indoor space but were unable to attend any of the in-person open house events, the Naperville Park District provided the ability for residents to submit their suggestions via the District’s website. A total of 402 responses were received from the online open house questionnaire.
