CHAPTER SEVEN • COMMUNITY SURVEY NAPERVILLE PARK DISTRICT INDOOR RECREATION SPACE NEEDS ASSESSMENT

INDOOR FACILITY USE & PROGRAM USE

The Fort Hill Activity Center was the most frequented facility, with 55% of respondents reporting that their household members visited the center at least once. Notably, 54 respondents (20%) visited more than 25 times in the last year. Programs for all ages offered by NPD also saw substantial participation, with 53% of household members (141 out of 266) visiting at least once last year, and 23% attending more than 25 times. This demonstrates a robust interest in and need for organized recreational, sports, fitness, and general interest programs, which are vital components of community life. Activities at school facilities where Park District programs take place showed considerable engagement, with attendance distributed evenly across several categories: 1-5 times (12%), 6-10 times (7%), 11-25 times (8%), and more than 25 times (9%) per year. This suggests a strong interest in the programs offered. In contrast, specialized facilities like the Knoch Knolls Nature Center exhibit a different pattern of visitor engagement, with over one-third of respondents (38% of 270 respondents) who reported visiting between 1-5 times annually. Overall, fewer respondents visited the 95th Street Center and Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center with majority of respondents visiting five or fewer times (86% and 91% respectively). The Sportsman’s Park Community Clubhouse and Studio One indicated very low overall engagement, with 93% and 95% of respondents, respectively, not attending in the past 12 months (Figure 6).
