INDOOR RECREATION FACILITY INTERESTS AND SPACE NEEDS

INDOOR RECREATION FACILITY INTERESTS About three quarters (76%) of respondents indicated an interest in walking/jogging tracks and health and fitness spaces. Respondents indicated strong interest in indoor aquatic facilities, especially for a pool for swim lessons, open swim, etc. and lap pool with 73% and 65% respectively, indicating interest in these aquatic activities. Sixty-two percent of respondents indicated an interest in a water park with slides and tubes, and 59% reported interest in a warm water therapy pool. Spray/ splash water play features attracted the interest of 54%. Gym courts for sports like basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and badminton were of interest to 63% of respondents and 40% of respondents were interested in synthetic turf fields for sports such as soccer, lacrosse, and cricket. Respondents indicated a moderate level of interest in general program space and social spaces with 49% and 44% respectively, suggesting a need for areas that facilitate community gathering and social interaction. More than a third of respondents indicated interest in theater and performance spaces (42%) and hospitality spaces (41%). Gymnastics space saw a lower level of interest at 24%. Fifty-seven respondents wrote in other indoor spaces of interest to them. Suggestions included: aquatic facilities, fitness facilities, other sports facilities, more pickleball courts, a climbing wall, tennis courts, a sauna, and cultural/fine arts facilities (Figure 10) .
