CHAPTER SEVEN • COMMUNITY SURVEY NAPERVILLE PARK DISTRICT INDOOR RECREATION SPACE NEEDS ASSESSMENT
Respondents indicated how important the following three types of indoor recreation facilities are to them and members of their household: 1) a multi-purpose facility without a pool; 2) a multi-purpose facility with a pool; and 3) a multi-purpose activity center (with synthetic turf) (Table 2) . Each of these facilities were ranked from 1 (not important) to 3 (very important). The ratings indicate a standard deviation of less than 1, which means the responses cluster closely to the mean score. The facility rated most important was a multi-purpose facility with a pool, which had a mean ranking of 2.44 out of 3.0. The standard deviation (SD) indicates how closely ratings cluster around the mean score. This was followed by a multi-purpose activity center (with synthetic turf) with a mean ranking of 1.94. The least important facility was a multi-purpose facility without a pool, which had a mean ranking of 1.90. Importance rankings were also analyzed by respondents’ residential location within the eight planning areas. It is notable that Planning Area 8 respondents ( Table 2 ) has the highest importance ranking for the multi-purpose facility with a pool (2.5), which coincides with the findings from open-ended responses in which southwest Naperville respondents indicated a strong need for an indoor recreational facility with a pool.
