CHAPTER SEVEN • COMMUNITY SURVEY NAPERVILLE PARK DISTRICT INDOOR RECREATION SPACE NEEDS ASSESSMENT

FACILITY AMENITY INTEREST: BY YEARS LIVED IN NAPERVILLE Interest in facility amenities was also examined by years lived in Naperville (Table 9) . Regardless of years lived in Naperville, interest in “gym courts,” “walking/jogging track,” “health and fitness space,” and all aquatic amenities - with the exception of “water park (slides, tubes)” - was high to moderately high (above 60% across all amenities for both groups). A moderate 35 to 60% of both groups were interested in “gym courts,” “hospitality spaces,” “general program spaces,” “theater/performance spaces,” “social spaces,” and “water park (slides, tubes).” The greatest disparity in interest between groups was for “gymnastics space” and “synthetic turf field,” with respondents who have lived in Naperville for less than 20 years showing more interest in both amenities than respondents who have lived in Naperville for over 20 years (31% vs 12%, respectively for “gymnastics space”; and 52% vs 23%, respectively for “synthetic turf field”). It is likely that those living in Naperville for less than 20 years have young children at home, which may explain the higher interest in these two youth-oriented amenities among this group.

Table 9: Facility Interest by Years Lived in Naperville

CONCLUSION INTEREST IN FACILITY AMENITIES: BY AGE GROUP AND YEARS LIVED IN NAPERVILLE

There is high interest across all age groups in all types of aquatic amenities and for health and fitness amenities such as “health and fitness space” and “walking/jogging track.” This pattern was also evident for all respondents regardless of the number of years they have lived in Naperville. The interest in “gymnastics space” and “synthetic turf fields” is lower as age increases and for respondents who have lived in Naperville 20 or more years. There is moderate interest across all age groups and length of time living in Naperville for “hospitality spaces,” “general program spaces,” “social spaces,” and “theater/ performance spaces.” These results can inform planning for the types of spaces to include in a potential multi-purpose activity center.
