MAKING CHRISTMAS SPECIAL A Season of Snow, Family, and the True Spirit of Giving
The magic of a snowy morning, a break from the hustle and bustle, and quality time with the ones you love — there is something special about Christmas. From the fun of unwrapping thoughtful gifts to helping others who may not have the means to put presents under the tree, this time of year brings out the spirit of kindness and giving in people. I grew up in Canada, so I’ve had my share of Christmas card-worthy, snowy holidays. A white Christmas feels magical; it’s like the scene of a holiday movie or story that’s come to life. I can vividly remember looking out the front
a little embarrassed, too, that someone out there knew we needed help. But this act was so sweet and full of love that it impressed me. Ever since, I’ve wanted to pay that moment forward, giving what I can to someone else. We’re a large bunch with 23 people in our family. A lot of gift-giving goes on between our kids, grandkids, and in-laws. The shopping sessions can get crazy, so I treasure the calm of being with people I care about. This year will be extra special for us because my youngest son is getting married on Dec. 20. So, we are going to have family in town around the holiday for the wedding, and I think it’s a beautiful time of year for such a joyous occasion. December is a good month for us. My oldest daughter was married on Dec. 28, several years ago. As Christmas approaches, I remember how fortunate we are to have these beautiful moments together. Christmas is a time to reflect, rest, and reconnect, not just with our loved ones, but with the true meaning of giving. window as a kid in the dark on Christmas morning, where one street lamp illuminated the snow falling. It was just this beautiful, delicate, peaceful snowfall covering the ground. My parents were both from Germany, so as kids, we would always celebrate St. Nicholas’s Day on Dec. 6. We would all leave out a shoe or boot the night before to wake up to all kinds of goodies inside, like oranges, pencils, and candies. Though I haven’t continued that tradition, I have fond memories of those mornings, and my sister still does this with her family in Canada.
My family has always made it a habit to go tobogganing or sledding down the hill with the kids on Christmas Day. When my kids were little, it was so fun to watch them rip open every single present and be absolutely thrilled with their gifts. But, as we have all gotten older, we find it more meaningful to give to others. Every year, we try to find a family struggling to make Christmas a reality for their loved ones. We make an anonymous donation of money or gifts so they, too, can experience the same comfort and thrill of receiving something special. I just can’t stand the thought of any family being unable to experience it in their homes. I was in that position many years ago. I was still a chiropractor then, and in 2002, we faced hard financial challenges. We had a bankruptcy, and each Christmas gift we bought for the kids meant one more notch on our credit card debt. I’ll never forget the doorbell ringing one morning, only to look outside and see a huge pile of presents on our front porch. There were gifts for all my six children and our family; I was so touched by that. I felt humbled and
celebrating my son’s wedding to bringing a little joy to a needy family, it feels like this year will be another memorable holiday.
Happy holidays to you and your family!

UNWIND WITH Buying a massage chair is an exciting investment in your health and well-being, offering many relaxing benefits. But before you make your purchase, beware hidden red flags like suspicious reviews, confusing return policies, and a lack of after-sales support. Knowing what to look for and what to be cautious about can ensure you relax in your chair without any surprises. BOGUS REVIEWS One of the first places you will likely turn to is online reviews. If you see a chair or company with nothing but glowing reviews, you should approach it cautiously. It’s rare that every single person who tries a chair will love it; even the top-of-the-line models have features someone isn’t thrilled with. It’s a red flag if a company or chair has no negative reviews or comments. Companies may be paying for these positive reviews, or they may be writing them in-house. If you want to fact-check a review, you can use the FakeSpot app, which will give the review a grade for legitimacy. HAZY RETURN POLICIES Determining if a massage chair is the right fit for you takes time. So, a company’s return policy, as well as its other customer policies, is an important consideration. Make sure you understand how many days you have to return the chair and decide whether that’s enough time to evaluate how well it works for you. “Super great. Dr. Alan Weidner and his son were very professional. Just as in 2013, when we purchased our second massage chair, everything went smoothly. The last was the Infinity IT-8500, which we are still using. This time, it’s the new Infinity Luminary Syner-D. Its delivery was just yesterday. We assembled the little bit of components to the main chair piece today (only three pieces), and we now have upstairs and downstairs units.” —Dan

What Space Considerations Do You Need for a Massage Chair?
NON-EXISTENT SUPPORT
Of course, factors like cost and features are important when you buy a massage chair, but don’t forget about the value of customer support. If something goes wrong with your chair or you have questions, after-sale support is
This month, we’ll explore the space considerations you need to bring a massage chair into your home!
Q: How much space does a massage chair take up? A: Most massage chair models will fit perfectly somewhere in your home, but typically, when fully reclined, require 70–80 inches of floor space. The majority of chairs are 30–36 inches when fully assembled. While all chairs will fit through a standard door frame of 36 inches, keep in mind that areas like stairwells or tight corners may be too narrow to carry the chair through. Always measure the space you have in mind for the chair before you purchase it. Q: What kind of massage chair is good for my living room? A: A massage chair can transform your living room into a stylish relaxation hub. Look for a chair that complements the space’s color and decor. Opt for an easily accessible spot near your TV or sound system that has nice lighting for curling up with a good book. For most chairs, you’ll want to leave about 2–3 inches of clearance behind them so they can recline fully. Q: Can I still fit a chair into a tiny or small space?
critical. When a problem arises with your chair, a company or supplier should have resources for you. Look for companies with support options on their websites and have reviews that include positive feedback on how they respond to issues. Your comfort and satisfaction should always come first — so take the time to find the right chair and company to support you!

• 3/4 cup pecans, roughly chopped • 1/2 cup hot water Toffee sauce • 1/2 cup unsalted butter • 1 cup brown sugar • 1/2 cup heavy cream
Compact chairs offer the same benefits in a smaller package. They don’t require as much room, making them excellent options when space is limited. Some chairs come
with space-saving features and use technology that allows you to get the same types of massage without fully reclining. The feature allows the seat to slide forward on the base as you recline, meaning the chair won’t need to lean backward or forward too much. Q: What should I consider when I want to put a massage chair in my office? A: When shopping for an in-office massage chair, focus on compact models or models with space-saving

Unravel the Myth of the 16th-Century Rocket Cat
CAT-APULTING INTO HISTORY The Feline-Flying Military Tactic That Never Took Off
Throughout military history, you’ll find strategic experiments ranging from the genius to the downright bizarre. But few can top the zany brainchild of Franz Helm, a 16th-century German artillery
was straightforward: kidnap an enemy cat, strap it into a gunpowder-laden backpack, light the fuse, and hope Mr. Whiskers doesn’t get cold paws about blowing up its evil overlords.
aficionado whose bright idea left historians — and cat lovers — utterly bewildered. Let’s set the scene with Helm’s magnum opus, the “Feuer Buech,” published in 1584, a treasure trove of ( literally ) explosive innovations in warfare. Imagine this: a battlefield in the Renaissance, not just filled with the clang of swords and the thunder of cannons, but also — wait for it — flying, flaming cats. Yes, you read that right. Franz Helm’s groundbreaking military tactic involved jetpacks for cats. Picture a kitty, strapped with a sack of gunpowder, zipping through the air like a furry missile aimed at enemy strongholds.
Preserved for posterity at the University of Pennsylvania, the “Feuer Buech” reminds us of the lengths human creativity can go — especially when combined with a profound misunderstanding of cat behavior. As any cat owner will tell you, cats have their own agendas. The chances of a cat completing its fiery mission are about as high as it bringing you the morning newspaper. Thankfully, we have no evidence that this pyrotechnic plan ever came to pass. Considering cats’ notorious independence, we can rest assured that no self-respecting felines took part in these explosive escapades.
The hope? These feline projectiles would scamper back to their homes — presumably in enemy territory — and start a blazing inferno. One can only wonder about how they would train cats to become arsonists. The method
So, next time you’re cuddling with your cat, be thankful its biggest inclination is to knock pens off your table rather than infiltrate enemy castles with fire.
