Kennedy Oaks Day

CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME

Welcome to Kennedy Oaks Day 2023 at Flemington. Our beautiful racecourse is the perfect backdrop to the best in Australian and international fashion. And fashion is a huge part of the tradition of Oaks Day, a unique celebration on the Australian racing calendar as the only sport that has its own fashion category. We know that Oaks Day is celebrated at race meetings, parties, and luncheons around Australia. Welcome, wherever you are—especially if you have dressed for the occasion.

The focus of the day at the racecourse itself is on the race for staying fillies, the $1 million Kennedy Oaks. This classic has a history as venerable as that of the Melbourne Cup itself and has been won by some of the greatest fillies in Australia. Firmly cemented now as a big attraction on Kennedy Oaks Day is the Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Final, over 1600 metres. Everyone involved in Australian racing dreams of having a runner at the Melbourne Cup Carnival and of seeing their horse reach the winning post ahead of the rest. Today the Country Final will help that dream come true for one deserving stable. The race is for horses with non-metropolitan trainers. The smaller stables get their chance to shine on the biggest racing stage of all. Over the past month, competitors have been racing in heats at Murtoa, Cranbourne, Hamilton, Horsham, Geelong, Sale and Bendigo. The first and second placegetters in each heat automatically qualified for today’s final, with $500,00 in prizemoney. Please enjoy the feast of fashion and racing on an outstanding Kennedy Oaks Day at Flemington.
