Ryan Hoesli keeps it short and sweet: “Football, of course!” A reminder that sometimes the best fall traditions don’t need much explaining.
And for Tammy Venable , the season begins at home. She loves filling her space with pumpkin spice candles from White Barn—her go-to for cozy evenings after work and for setting the stage while decorating for fall. When her kids were younger, she enjoyed attending pumpkin patches, farmers markets, and fall festivals with them, traditions that still color her memories of the season.
Darcy Miller leans into the quieter side of the season. Each year, she and her family visit friends who run a pumpkin patch, and she often spends time riding horses through the creek—a favorite fall pastime that bridges the seasons of summer and autumn. For Richie Holmes, October means horse racing at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky. His perfect day begins with tailgating and live music on “the Hill,” continues with hours at the historic track, and ends with dinner at Malone’s steakhouse. While the wins at the track may be rare, the fall atmosphere, rich tradition, and unforgettable experience always make it a victory in his book.
For Gary Swift , fall road trips wouldn’t be the same without his loyal co-pilot, Hudson. This charming furry friend proves that every journey is better with a dog along for the ride—especially when the open road and autumn colors are calling.
For Andy and Amanda Sheets , college football is a family tradition. They love tailgating and cheering on their teams—Andy’s all about the Hoosiers, Amanda’s a Buckeye, and with their kids at Purdue and Cincinnati, they keep an eye on the Boilers and Bearcats too. Over the years, they’ve traveled to most of the original Big Ten schools, and now they’ve got the expanded Big Ten to explore. It remains their favorite way to spend time together and make memories every fall. Doug Martin is excited to share that in addition to helping clients here in Indiana, he’s expanded his real estate business to Florida! That means swapping strolls along the Monon for walks on the sandy beaches of Southwest Florida. While he’s not quite ready to call himself a snowbird, Doug says, “let’s just say I’m a sunseeker."
From concerts with his wife, Nicole, to smoking ribs, fishing, and playing a round of golf with his boys, Joe Stacy has plenty of favorite ways to enjoy the season.
