APART FROM BEING AN ATTRACTIVE OPTION, STAINLESS STEEL IS RESISTANT TO CORROSION. Bunzl Safety stocks wire rope and fittings in two common stainless steel grades – Grade 304 and Grade 316.

STAINLESS STEEL

BEING RESISTANT TO CORROSION, STAINLESS STEEL IS LARGELY USED IN CORROSIVE APPLICATIONS, IN PARTICULAR MARINE AND WASTE MANAGEMENT ENVIRONMENTS. IT IS ALSO CONSIDERED AN ATTRACTIVE OPTION, IT IS COMMONLY USED IN OTHER APPLICATIONS INCLUDING DECORATIVE BALUSTRADING. When working in high corrosive environments it is important to ensure you are using the right products to withstand the harsh conditions. Stainless steel is generally manufactured from both 304 and 316 grade stainless, sourced from the best manufacturers both locally and overseas. At Bunzl Safety we pride ourselves on supplying only quality and consistent stainless steel products. 304 AND 316 GRADE STAINLESS STEEL 304 Grade stainless steel is considered to be a standard grade. It has excellent resistance to corrosion, however has some limitations in higher corrosive environments. 316 Grade stainless steel, also known as marine grade stainless steel, has a higher corrosion resistance than 304 grade stainless steel and is better in harsher corrosive applications, such as salt water environments. It is suitable for food and pharmaceutical processing applications and is commonly used on boats, and coastal environments. Cromox is a brand of innovative high quality stainless steel lifting products made by Ketten Wälder in Germany. Cromox offers real advantages in terms of resistance, in particular with respect to aggressive environments. Cromox stainless steel lifting chain and components are specifically designed for use in water, wastewater and sewerage treatment. Cromox Grade 60 stainless steel lifting chain is manufactured from 316L and 318LN stainless steel and is available in sizes 5mm – 18mm, with a working load limit (WLL) of 630kg to 8000kg.

OTHER APPLICATIONS INCLUDE DECORATIVE BALUSTRADING AND OUTDOOR USE. WIRE ROPE Wire rope is complex and therefore it is critical to determine which configuration is best for a project or application. Consideration needs to be given to the kind of project you are doing and how strong and durable you require your wire rope to be. Choosing the right wire rope for your application will not only affect performance, but will also effect its' longevity .

There are three common constructions of stainless steel wire rope used in rigging applications. 7 X 19

The most common and versatile construction of stainless steel wire rope is 7 x 19. It consists of 7 strands each with 19 wires and is the most flexible and easy construction to work with. 7 x 19 can be used in either fixed rigging or for limited working rope applications. 7 X 7 Wire rope is not as flexible as 7 x 19, is 7 x 7 wire rope, it consists of 7 strands each with 7 wires. 7 x 7 is an excellent choice for fixed rigging applications such as balustrading and safety barrier rails. 1 X 19 A single strand wire rope is the 1 x 19, and consists of a single strand with 19 wires. This rope is very stiff and is therefore suitable for fixed “straight line” rigging only (such as mast stays, guy ropes and structural applications).
