Events You’ll Want to Join A Year of Moe-ments
What do a roller rink, a bowling alley, and a comedy club have in common? They’ve all been packed with friends of Just Call Moe this year. We’re not your average law firm, and that’s exactly how we like it. Sure, we handle serious cases, but we also believe in showing up for the community in fun and memorable ways. That’s why we plan all kinds of events to bring people together and give back.
As you might already know, we are bringing back one of our favorites this fall: the Just Call Moe Comedy Jam. It’s happening on Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Orlando Funny Bone, and we’ve lined up a group of comedians guaranteed to make your face hurt from smiling. Madison Bakich, Ricky Reyes, and Sean Finnerty are on the bill, and the always hilarious Ross McCoy will be back to emcee the event. Tickets start at $20, and proceeds benefit a great cause: the Yellow Brick Road Foundation. Get tickets at MoeComedyJam.com .
For now, just know that if you’ve ever wanted to be part of what we’re building, this is your sign. The best way to stay in the loop is to follow us on social media. That’s where we post event details, share photos, drop ticket links, and give you a behind-the-scenes look at everything from giveaways to our latest merch. You can also get in on the fun by joining our VIP list. Simply visit JustCallMoe.com/VIP to join. We know that legal work isn’t always fun, but that doesn’t mean the people behind it have to be boring. Thanks for being a part of what makes this community worth showing up for. We’ll keep planning the events. You just bring your crew and come hang out. See you at the next one!
Be sure to arrive to the JustCallMoe Comedy Jam early to get a FREE DRINK from That Mortgage Guy Don. He’s buying the first 100 attendees a drink! Don’t miss your chance to laugh, sip, and celebrate on That Mortgage Guy Don. Of course, that’s just one stop on the calendar. This spring, we hosted our Second Annual Just Call Moe Celebrity Bowl-o-Rama. It was a fun afternoon of bowling, complete with pins and prizes. In July, we swapped the lanes for roller skates and filled the rink with good vibes and better music during our free roller skating bash at the Semoran Skateway. Our VIP dinners are still going strong, too. These smaller gatherings let us connect one-on-one with the people we’ve helped over the years.

Audiobooks the Whole Family Will Love HIT ‘PLAY’ AND HIT THE ROAD
The stress of holiday road trips can tempt any parent to let their kids zone out in front of a screen, but don’t give in! To prevent bored youngsters from disappearing into their tablets or phones during long drives, consider healthier modes of entertainment, such as audiobooks. Unlike passive entertainment media such as movies and video games, audiobooks can accelerate a child’s reading ability by making more complex language accessible. Also, the whole family can enjoy listening to a good audiobook — even sitting in separate seats in a moving car! Apps like Libby or Hoopla provide access to audiobooks and ebooks through participating public libraries. Amazon Prime subscribers can access some free audiobooks through Audible. For suggestions on family fare, ask your local librarian or check out the nonprofit Common Sense Media website for recommended holiday-themed books. For elementary school children, consider “The Snow Queen,” a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. This classic story of a girl saving her friend from danger, read by Julia Whelan, will inspire listeners with its lessons
about fidelity and courage. Another classic is “The Cricket in Times Square” by George Selden. Read with dazzling energy by “Monk” actor Tony Shalhoub, this tale of a streetwise city mouse encountering a country cricket in a New York subway station is an engaging, easy listen. For tweens, “The Mother-Daughter Book Club, Book 5” by Heather Vogel Frederick tells of five book club members setting out on holiday trips from the tropics to the Alps. Of course, numerous disasters befall them before the book’s satisfying ending! Another Christmas-themed winner is “Nickel Bay Nick” by Blair Jackson, a coming-of-age novel about a troublemaking 11-year-old boy who gets a chance to redeem himself when a mysterious neighbor blackmails him to perform acts of charity in their down-and-out town. And “Juniper’s Christmas” by Eoin Colfer is a Christmas adventure about 11-year-old Juniper Lane, who is accidentally exposed to North Pole magic after she asks for help from a mysterious woodsman living in a nearby park. As you listen, you can enjoy knowing that in addition to entertaining the family, you are stimulating your child’s imagination and language ability as they visualize the people and places in these delightful stories.
Hockey’s returning to Orlando, and we are more than ready for it. Our Solar Bears are starting the season on Friday, Oct. 17, against the Florida Everblades, and it’s shaping up to be a big night. We’ve got our gear packed, tickets in hand, and a few surprises in the works. At Just Call Moe, we’re all longtime fans and are proud to return this season as the Exclusive Personal Injury Law Firm of the Solar Bears. This partnership means a lot to us, and we show up to support our team. You’ll find us at most home games as close to the action as possible, talking with fans and handing out merch. Our setup will look a little different this year. We’ve added new swag and giveaways that we’re very excited about. And there’s one big centerpiece you’re going to want to check out: a custom goalie mask The Solar Bears Are Back… And So Are We
decorated with our logo and the Solar Bears’ logo. We’ll display it at games throughout the season, and one lucky fan will be able to take it home at the end of the season. Entry will be completely free. All you have to do is stop by and throw your name in. We’re also planning a few smaller giveaways during the season, so keep an eye out at our table. You never know what you’ll walk away with besides a new favorite team. It’s hockey time in Orlando again, and we’ll see you at the rink. Let’s go, Bears!

CELEBRATING OUR 2025 CRUISE WINNER One Lucky Teacher Is Going Cruisin’
Whenever we can, our team at Just Call Moe likes to do something special for the people in our community who make a difference year after year but might not always get the spotlight. That’s why we brought back one of the favorite things we’ve ever done: the Teacher Cruise Contest. We first did this back in 2023 and had a blast. This year, we got over 600 nominations for teachers who deserved a well-earned getaway. This summer, we opened up nominations for our 2025 Teacher Cruise Contest. The contest was open to pre-K through 12th- grade teachers across Florida, and the response was fantastic. We asked for a short essay of around 250 words explaining why a teacher you know deserves a relaxing break at sea. The response was incredible, with nominations from parents, students, family, and coworkers of fantastic teachers. This year’s winner is Bianca Pereyra, a pre-K teacher at Miami Springs Elementary School. Her nomination came from her daughter, Mia. She described her mom as a teacher whose classroom lights up with joy and said she’s someone her students look up to and her coworkers respect. Mia also
shared that despite a recent cancer diagnosis and the surgeries, treatment, and fatigue that come with it, her mom continues to show up for her students every day. On Sept. 4, attorney Moe DeWitt made a special trip to Miami, where he surprised Bianca at her school with the announcement that she had won the cruise. We hope this cruise gives Bianca a chance to rest,
recharge, and enjoy a peaceful escape. To all the teachers who were nominated, thank you for the work you do. You inspire more than you know. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates, photos, and more stories from our community.

THE QUIRKY WORLD OF SUPERSTITIONS FROM LADDERS TO BLACK CATS
Ever caught yourself short after walking under a ladder or cringed when a black cat crossed your path? You’re not alone. These superstitions have been with us for centuries, and they’re just two on a long list of many that people still have today. While some may feel silly, all of them have fascinating origin stories. Of course, there’s a practical, safety-related reason not to walk under a ladder, but the superstition comes from several places, including Christian tradition. In Christianity, the triangle represents the Holy Trinity. Walking through the triangle formed by a ladder was seen as breaking this perfect unity. Ladders were also associated with the gallows in medieval times. Walking under one was thought to bring death or bad luck — nobody wanted that energy.
What about the black cat thing? They got a bad rap in medieval Europe and were tied to witchcraft. The number 13? That came from stories of betrayal and misfortune. Opening an umbrella indoors? That’s part practicality — no one wants to knock over a vase or poke someone in the eye — and part belief that opening them indoors would offend the Sun God. Do you carry a rabbit’s foot for good luck? You have Celtic folklore to thank for that one.
The truth is that all superstitions are a mix of history, fear, and habit rolled into stuff we still believe and do without
thinking. So, the next time you say “bless you” after a sneeze, remember you’re protecting souls
one sniffle at a time.
