Bible Book of the Month (Continued from Page 251) fully what the people said as stated In verse 14. Dr. G. Campbell Morgan characterizes this as blasphemy, say ing, "Tho very worst form of blas phemy is the misrepresentation of God by people who profess to love His name.” How terrible and how com mon Is this sin among professing Christians today! It reminds us of the accusations made against the Jews of Paul’s day in the words of Romans 2:24 R. V.: “The name of God is bias-' phemed among the Gentiles because of you.” It is very evident that the people of Malachi’s day were in a deplorable spiritual condition. However, it is very refreshing to know that even then there was a “faithful remnant” as described in 3:16. In the midst of a formal, stultified, hypocritical peo ple, there was a group in whom God could take delight. They “feared the Lord” by manifesting a “reverential trust with a hatred of evil.” Instead of despising God’s name (1:6), they “ thought upon his name.” They had sweet fellowship with one another as well as with the Lord, and were a joy to the heart of their God. As already indicated, there is much in the professing church today that reminds us of the condition of the people in Malachi’s day, but thanks be to God there is now, as then, a godly remnant, those who are separated from the world and separated unto God. It is to be hoped that each read er of this article is in this latter class, seeking to walk humbly with God and to glorify Him by doing His will. For all such (as for the faithful remnant of Malachi’s day) a glorious future awaits them; but for all others, a time of terrible retribution at the coming of the Lord. (Read carefully the fourth chapter of Malachi.)
