BIBLE DRILLS FOR JUNIORS AND INTERMIDIATES Charlotte S. Frampton

Purpose: To learn something of the structure of the Bible, that references may be quickly found. To memorize the Word. To present briefly, God’s plan of salvation through the Cross. The drill should not be longer than ten minutes. Thé best time is the last few minutes of the opening exercises, just before the groups go to their classes. The drill should be full of action and always orderly. A black board or feltograph may be used, on which the text you wish to emphasize should be printed, written, or illus trated in some manner. The drill is opened by the singing of the song, “The B-I-B-L-E” ; the leader and all who have Bibles stand and hold them high in their right hands—open, if they have been read daily. The Bibles are then closed, the pupils seated, and a group of refer ences is found and read aloud. Here competition between girls and boys is helpful. As soon as one finds the ref erence, he stands and clearly reads the first three words. All who stand be fore the bell rings (have someone ap pointed in advance to ring the desk bell, giving five or six seconds for the finding of each verse) come forward and stand with the leader, the girls lined up on one side, the boys on the other. When there is quiet, call on the one who found the verse first to read it aloud—but INSIST upon perfect quietness as the Word is read. At the close of the reference hunt, be sure to count each side. Then all repeat a memory verse, 2 Tim. 2:15, for in stance, giving the reference first. July 7 Blackboard: Matt. 5:17 (centered): “Think not that I. am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.” Song— “The B-I-B-L-E,” all stand with upheld Bible. Leader— Who spoke these words on our board? Answer— (Call on someone with up raised hand). The Lord Jesus (Matt. 5:17). Leader —What part of the Bible did He mean by “the law” ? Answer —The first five books. Leader —Please name them. Answer— Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. Leader— Who wrote them? Answer— Moses. Leader —Did Moses write about the Lord Jesus? Answer —Yes, Jesus Himself said so (Luke 24:27).

Leader— Did the p r o p h e t s write about the Lord Jesus? Answer—j-Yes, indeed, every one of them. Leader —Name some of the prophets. Answer— Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel. Leader— Did these writers live when Jesus was upon'this earth? Answer— No, they lived hundreds of years before He came. Leader —Then how could they write about Him whom they had not seen? Answer— The Holy Spirit, who knows all things, guided them and told them what to write (2 Pet. 1:21). Leader— Ready with our Bibles to find some references: 1. Here is the first promise of the coming of the Lord Jesus—Gen. 3:15. 2. Here are two verses telling of the fulfillment of this p r o m i s e—Col. 2:14,15. 3. Seven hundred years before His birth, this prophet wrote of Him— Isa. 53:6. 4. Peter tells us that He did just this—1 Pet. 2:24. Count each side to see who Won to day, the girls or the boys. Let us all find and repeat this reference and verse, 2 Tim. 2:15. Thank you; be seated. July 14 Blackboard: Isa. 40:8 (centered): “The g r a s s withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” Song— “The B-I-B-L-E.” Leader— Let us together read our reference and verse. (For the second reading, turn the board once to the right, letting it rest on its side.) Leader— Now see if we can read it. (For the third reading, have the board upside down; for the fourth time, turn it once more to the right; and for the fifth, turn the board around, having the back of .it toward the audience. Each time have the reference given first.) Leader— Who wrote these words? Answer —Isaiah. Leader —Ready for o u r reference hunt: 1. God honors His Word—Psa. 138:2. 2. God’s Word is eternal — Matt. 24:35. 3. God’s Word is sure—1 Pet. 1:23-25. 4. David wrote of the constancy of God’s Word—Psa. 119:89. 5. Gccl.’s Word is living.—Heb. 4:12. Count sides. All repeat in unison Isa. 40:8.
