There is a time to learn and a time to share what we have learned. At WORD OF LIFE we have had the privilege of gaining knowledge in God’s word under the instruction of some of the greatest Bible teachers, and of gaining ex perience in spreading the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to a lost and needy world. The Bible says “How shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher” (Romans 10:14b)? We pray that this is only the beginning of a life of serving Him and know ing Him and growing in Him.

Friendships Are Forever
Worth more than gold is the happiness that two friends share the security of having someone close by just to be with or to share secrecies that are locked in the heart. The warmth that two people share should be captured and stored for eternity for true friends only come by once. Relationships between special friends, like gold signifies how valuable love is, and should be treasured in the heart. Hold on to strong feelings, for those you care about, don’t let their love go by, for true friends only come by once.
President Jack Wyrtzen
Congratulations, Class of 1985 . . . I am sure there have been many times this year when you have wondered if this year would ever end, and now, it has. This should show you the need of making each day count for Jesus’ sake. “There is a time for everything” and each of you should make good use of your time. “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom,” (Psalm 90:12). The proof of how well you have grown in the Word here at the Bible Institute will be found in the way you apply the Word to your life in the days ahead. Make the ways of God your ways and you will be firmly grounded and will not be attracted to the ways of the world. Be on your guard against false teachers who will seek to lead you astray. Stand fast in the faith against changes in doctrine, the charismatic or ecumenical movements, or devilish humanisms that are engulfing the world. Keep your eyes on the risen Lord. I have been praying for you and will continue to pray as you go. We are all a part of the same family; you are always welcome at my home. God Bless You Yours on the Victory Side, Jack Wyrtzen Phil. 2:16

TO THE STUDENTS OF THE CLASS OF 1985: May I congratulate you on the accomplishment of finishing the course that the Lord set before you this year. But as you go, may I challenge you to keep yourself free from anything that will enslave you. In Romans 6:12-18, Paul talks extensively about anything that would control and dominate your life as something that is your master, whether it be an attitude, action or thoughts. We, who know the Lord, should have the daily discipline of bringing all of our being into the obedience of the Lord Jesus Christ. Perhaps, one of Paul’s secrets was what we find in Philippians 3:13 where he says . .this one thing I do . . Could I challenge you to be a young man or a young woman of ‘one thing’? Paul didn’t say ‘these various things I play around with,’ but he had determination, and I would encourage you to look at 1986 and determine what is the one thing that He would like you to do for Him here on this earth. Then determine not to get involved in anything else that would distract you from this purpose or this goal. In that same verse, Philippians 3:13, Paul says that he reaches forth and he presses toward the mark. May every one of you come to realize that Paul’s secret was perhaps expressed best in Philippians 1:21 where he says “For me to live is Christ.” Jesus Christ wasn’t #1 on Paul’s list — Jesus Christ was his list. There will be many voices, influences, and circumstances that will seek to lure you from this purpose, but if we could have that same discipline, determination and deci sion that Paul had ... to live for Christ, we would become people who were doing that one thing and not just playing around in a whole lot of other things. May God bless you as you go, and don’t forget to keep in touch with W.O.L.B.I. You are a part of the family. George Theis Daniel 1:8

I Cor. 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, im movable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.” I trust that as our year of study together in the mountains draws to a close, that the lessons you have learned here will be anchored fast in your own hearts and souls. In the coming months, may your testimony as a con sistent, hard-working servant of the Lord be evident to all who come in contact with you. It is our prayer that this year will just be a starting point for your spiritual growth and that as the years go by, you will grow closer and closer to the Lord.
STUART PAGE EXECUTIVE DEAN
ROBERT GRAY DEAN OF STUDENTS Congratulations! You have finished ‘this race.’ A new one is about to begin. Twenty years from now; what will you have accomplished for the Lord? Whom will you have influenced? “Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm” (Daniel 6:3). My prayer is that the spirit will excel in you as it did in Daniel, and your life and ministry will be an evidence of the spirit working in you.
RAY NAMIE DIRECTOR OF EVANGELISM Praise God for the class of ’85. Your enthusiasm for souls has been exciting and my prayer is that it will continue ’til you are “finally Home.” C. T. Studd made a remarkable committment to his God. May you always reflect his com ment, “Some went to live within the sound of a church or chapel bell; I went to run a rescue ship within a yard of Hell.” Be good captains of that ship.
TOM DAVIS ACADEMIC DEAN
Joe Shenke . . . Dean of Men As you leave this great place called the Word of Life Bible Institute, remember this, God is not so much interested in what you are doing for Him, but in what He is doing in you.
God Bless You Richly
Mr. Joe Schenke Proverbs 14:23
Ginny Newton . . . Dean of Women
To the Class of 1985: I Peter 4:11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is the praise and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. This year you have learned principles in speaking. You all know how to minister — go forth in service glorifying Him. I’m thankful for the opportunity I had in working with each one of you this year. MERCY, what a year!

Marshall Wicks . . .Professor Sometimes we wish Linus’ remarks, as he watched Snoopy crying over a melting snowman, weren’t so true: “Poor Snoopy ... I see he’s lost another friend . . . it’s too bad. He’s so sensitive.’’ And even though partings do bring a kind of sorrow, they also bring a sense of great joy. For I know that many of you will step out and do great things for God. Snoopy’s snowman melted, never to be heard of again! Don’t let this be true of you. Stand steadfast and unmovable in spite of the heat of God’s testing, for we have no greater joy than to hear that our friends are walking in truth.
Marshall Wicks
Chris Miller . . . Professor . Transforming? Enlightening? Life changing? The best year of your life? I trust that these words describe your year here at WOLB1, and if your fellowship with the Lord stays close, they will describe every year after this! Remember that apart from a warm, abiding relationship with the Lord we “can do nothing” (John 15:5). Be faithful to the basic disciplines of the Chris tian life you have learned this year and you will agree with the songwriter, “the longer I serve Him, the sweeter He grows.” My prayer is that the Lord will bless you “exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or think” as you serve Him!

Married Students
This past year has been exciting as well as challenging for my husband and I, as married students. We have had to trust the Lord for our needs met in a way we have never, which has drawn us closer to Him each day. It has also been a year of growing closer to each as husband and wife as we have searched for the Lord’s will in our lives, and together seek to serve Him. Jill Moser

Closest Friends Oh the times we’ve shared together, They are mem’ries that we made. Through the sorrow and the laughter, A foundation we have laid. But it’s hard to see the day’s come, That we have to say goodbye, For our hearts can only cry out While our heads just wonder why. All the days we spent together caused Our hearts to grow as one. Still we have to look ahead because We’ve only just begun. He will change us in a moment, In a twink’ling of an eye. And we’ll never have to wonder If we’ll ever say goodbye. For our homes will be in heaven And we’ll finally be free, And we’ll know the joy of Being closest friends . . . eternally. David M. Poehlein

Thanksgiving
It’s a cool brisk Autumn day, deep in the month of November. Your alarm awakens you rather rudely from a fitful sleep. Suddenly, in your drowsiness you realize that today is Thanksgiving Fiesta Day. Early on in your Institute year, you will be initiated, perhaps for the very first time, about how Word of Life celebrates a holiday. Fun, Food and Fellowship join hands to send a spirit of thankfulness and unity to our wonderful Lord. Thanksgiving Fiesta Day started out bright and early with a crisp 2.5 mile run known as the Gobbler’s Gallop. The course winds its way through the trees, giving each of the 40 participants a few brief moments to reflect of the beauty of God’s creation. Before too long though, the runners once again become aware that the race will soon be over, and set their eyes of the finish line. Before anyone could have a chance at being bored, the Powder Puff football game between the B.I. and SYM girls was underway. Although the SYM girls had the advantage of experience from the past year, the superior muscle of the B.I. girls led them to victory. At the conclusion of the Powder Puff, the main attraction was ready to begin. Huge masses of muscle from both the B.I. and SYM met in the annual clash known as the Turkey Bowl. Again, superior talent and execution led the B.I. guys to a victory. The sporting activities of the day were followed by an afternoon of fellowship and food, as families and friends fellowshipped over an old fashioned turkey dinner. Dr. Harry Bollback followed the meal with a Thanksgiving message that challenged the hearts and lives of those in attendance. To top the evening off, Dr. Bollback led the Collegians in the season premier of “God’s Portrait of Love,’’ which wet our appetite for the many banquets and concerts still to follow.

After our first big week of snow camp, we were all ready for a break, and the September students waited to welcome the January students with the best of welcomes. They started off their first quarter at WOLBI, with the best missionary conference ever. Our theme for the Missions Con ference was, “Say It, Don’t Delay It, Just Do It.” Everything we did that weekend was centered around that theme. The weekend was filled with a lot of memorable moments. We had great general sessions as well as separate workshops. Each evening was ended with a missionary in each dorm which allowed everyone to get to know that particular mis sionary on a more personal level. Our final evening was a time of heart searching and dedication to the Lord. Each missionary touched all of the students of the class of 1985. It truly was a time of revival at WOLBI. At the end of our final evening, we all participated in setting a goal to raise 52,000 dollars to help sup port our missionaries. Each mis sionary gave us a quick overview of what they would be using the money for, which increased our in centive to raise the money. Throughout the last few months, we have not been able to forget our theme or our goal. We are continu ing to finish the race in which we have begun.

Hi my name is Paul Calvert, and my name is Vic Haddad and we are Jugglers For Jesus . . . International. A couple of years ago, we were trying to think of ways in which we could share the gospel with the world around us. We tried to take some classes on evangelism in the local church but we were not adults so this disqualified us. This is when we started thinking of ways in which we could witness more effectively. Then we had the idea that if we could perfect our juggling skills some, perhaps this would give us an avenue in which we could tell people of their sin problem and how Jesus Christ went to ex treme measures to provide an answer for this problem. This was the beginning of Jug glers For Jesus International. Since then we’ve had the opportunity to share our act with people in schools, churches, camps, Open Air, etc., and also share the Gospel at the same time. We believe that Jesus wants us to share the gospel with all people and we also believe that Christians today need to open their eyes and start making it our number one priority to glorify and please God. A friend of ours once asked us, “Do you love Jesus? Do you really love Jesus? Jesus said, ‘If you love Me, you’ll obey My commands.’ One of His last and greatest commands was Matthew 28:19, 20, ‘Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you always even unto the end of the world.’ ’’ Oh, Holy Father, please open our eyes to the hurting world around us. We give You the glory forever.

To meet the King’s Kung Fuist and Karate for Christ Team, we’ll look at each in dividual and their salvation experience. Michael M. Winburn came to the Lord through the ministry of the Riverdale Baptist Church on May 5, 1982, Barry Askew in the spring of 1976 and Julie Aschoff met the Savior in September of 1980 in an evangelistic meeting. You’ve met the King’s Kung Fuist and Karate for Christ Team so you see we have a unique group of young people serving the Lord in a unique way. The King’s Kung Fuist began in September of 1982 at the Above and Beyond Teen Club of Riverdale Baptist Church of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. This was approx imately 4 months after I came to know Christ as my Savior. Barry Askew joined the team in September of 1983. When we came to W.O.L.B.I., we carried on the King’s Kung Fuist with ministry outreaches to mostly teenagers. Here at W.O.L.B.I. we met Julie Aschoff (American Kiyokoshia Karate). We, the King’s Kung Fuist and Karate for Christ, believe in using our gifts for the Lord. How?, you ask. In a society where the philosophy is entertainment centered, we use the Martial Arts as a magnet for attraction. During the demonstration of Mar tial Arts, we present a clear plan of God’s gift of salvation including an invitation. The Spirit of God works and people get saved!! This year alone at W.O.L.B.I., we’ve seen approximately 65 teens come to Christ. I’m excited that God has chosen to use us. What do the members think? Barry . . . “This is a captivating means to share Christ.” Julie . . . “It’s really exciting to see how He uses a talent like karate to glorify Himself.” We don’t claim to be masters of the art, Just servants of the Savior!!

And here is the star of the show . . . David Payne. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it’s the WOLBI version of the classic family confrontation of intelligence and wit. Is there any better way to once and for all decide which instructor really is infallible? For over an hour, the two teams battled with the lead boun cing back and forth, making the suspense almost unbearable. Questions like, “How many chips in a WOL chocolate chip cookie?” and “Who eats the most of all the WOLBI students?” had the teams baffled. In the end, after the smoke had cleared, the Miller family came out on top, waving fran tically, the winning tickets worth a dollar at the snack shack. u l im u l i r u u

Being involved in the Collegians this year has allowed me to minister to people, through what I enjoy most and that is in song. To me the WOL Collegians is one experience after another, using the talent that the Lord has given to proclaim His name across the nation and beyond. Charlene Paton Collegians means a special ministry One of the best things about Collegians is the special friendships you make. It’s like you’re one big family all with a common goal, working to get the job done. Jill Reehl Singing has always been an outlet for my emotions, but since I’ve been in the Collegians, I’ve come to realize that I can use my singing for an even greater purpose . . sharing the good news of salvation. Beth Hansen Being a Collegian is an opportunity to exalt Jesus Christ by lifting our voices to Him in praise and by sharing His gospel in song. The "Passion Play" brought to life what our Savior did for us on Calvary's cross and the victory of His Resurrection Shawna Clouser Collegians is singing praises unto Him and telling the world of all His wondrous works. World of Life Collegians Group 2 are shown as they are on a weekend.
Being involved in Collegians is truly an experience none of us will forget. We all have so many memories . . . “honey if you love me, smile,” on GPL tour; Harold and his dog biscuits; Here comes Harry! 1-2-3-Come praise the Lord with me; Plink Plink; Ro Ray Roo Ree Rah; Snow Camp; Oh, Mr. Donnely; “Daddy D”; Rusty Jones; 6 a.m. Already; “He stirs up all the people!”; There goes the “family” into the mall again; Don’t you fear God?; A star is born in Altoona; Hail Master; Oh no . . . Claudia and Laura are still at the mall.” From GPL to the Passion Play, from singing in a jail to the United States Coast Guard Academy . . . Collegians has been a real blessing to me. Not only have I been able to serve the Lord in song, but I’ve been able to see the power of God change lives. Terri Burbank Certainly we have a God worth praising, and singing is one way to praise Him. Also people come to know Christ through singing and a big joy for me was seeing people saved through the ministry of the Collegians. Julie Miller As Christians, our sole purpose in life is to glorify the Lord in everything we do, whether it be eating, talking, singing, or anything! God has enabled me to use for His honor and glory to play and sing. I indeed count it a privilege to proclaim His word through song. This year in Collegians has greatly impressed upon me tha awesome power of God’s word, not only spoken but sung! Julie Dolan Collegians is a ministry that uses music as the medium of presentation of the message. Collegians give you the opportunity to minister to thousands of people through tours and yet be involved in local churches on weekends. Collegians is unique. Tony Rinkenberger Being in the Collegians is the highlight of this year. I have not only learned lots about music, but have also found this ministry to help me mature spiritually. It’s neat to see Christians work together to see unbelievers receive Christ. Dean Frey Collegians is one of the best experiences in my life. It is the only way I know of sing ing praises to God, while seeing people make life changing decisions for the Lord. John Frizzell Traveling is the highlight of the year spent in hard work learning music. It gives us a chance to show others what we have worked hard on this year as well as present the gospel message. Lynn Costley Music should be a vehicle to prepare hearts for the message of the word of God that is to be shared by a preacher or evangelist. Judging by the number of precious souls we have been blessed to see saved this year, as we’ve performed around the country, we can rejoice that God has empowered us and enabled us. I will especially remember Mr. Donley’s commitment to excellence, as a powerful motivator, and Miss Newton’s tender loving care and thoughtfulness on our tours. The greatest impression made upon me was to see how Jack Wyrtzen never misses a single opportunity to share Christ, either with a tract or the spoken word, with everyone he encounters, whatever their station in life or wherever he meets them. Jack seems always to have time for everyone, and a spirit of humility that speaks louder than any words. I shall have special memories and thoughts of each Collegian, and it will seem a lit tle sad, at least, to be apart from them as the Lord takes us on our separate ways. But oh! What wonderful reminiscing we will have to do in heaven! Such rejoicing there will be! John Lawrence

The O.A.C. experience is just that, an experience, one that will not be forgotten by any member of an O.A.C. team. Spending one week in the streets of cities like New York and Chicago preaching God’s Word will definitely change your life. One sees thousands of lonely faces searching for the meaning of life. It immediately breaks your heart. The students use painting sketch boards and rope tricks to get the gospel across to the people in the streets. Although we are nervous when we preach in the streets, we learn to trust in the Lord for the strength we need Phil. 4:13. Of course He always provides. We also have children meetings in the surrounding neighborhoods and projects. The girls are very involved in these meetings with Bible stories and teaching the children songs. At the end of all our meetings we give an invitation, and when we see people come to accept Christ as their Savior, we know that our work was well worth it. O.A.C. is bringing the gospel to the people and seeing souls saved.

I’m really thankful for the opportunity to be involved in such a dynamic ministry as this and want to see more come to know Christ. Walter Smith Prisons are en unevangelized field. Our prayers are needed to weaken the fantastic stronghold Satan has built here. There comes a day when Jesus will say did you ever pray or visit me and I will say Yes, Lord, while you were in prison. Matthew 25:31-46 Robert S. Thompson, Jr. Coming together to pray, and entering the prison, has been a blessing to me. The children beg for bread, in the darkness, but God’s power sets them free within themselves. Steve Cupone Being in prayer for the prison was the power for me to go in the prison to share the Gospel. John Scala I have spent four years in prison, a training ground for Satan. As the man from Macedonia called Paul through a vision, it has been my hope and prayer that God would send someone into the prisons to help a most neglected people. 1am now seeing not only my prayer answered but thousands of other inmates’ prayers answered through Word of Life. Jesus says in Matthew 28:19, 20, “Go ye therefore and teach all nations . . .” this includes prisons. 1just praise Jesus for being faithful and for opening the prison doors and setting the captives free (John 8:36). Perth Bible Church
It’s been a great year at Perth — learning to bear each other’s burdens and become a team; learning to be flexible, depending on God as the problems came (remember the unreliable bus in the first quarter?) learn ing the importance of sharing Christ and His blessings in the people that we met, living out the example as well; learning, above all, to place the needs of each other and those of the people and pastors of Perth above our own and receiving the abundant blessings only a servant can receive. He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ! Remember, who shall separate us from the love of Christ? I have only great memories and many praises as I look back over our year on the Perth Ministry. The Lord worked in our lives and challenged us in many ways. At the beginning of the year we had many medical and mechanical problems, but it only showed us the importance of patience, flexibility and team work, (okay, who has the paper bag, now breath in, breath out), seriously, we did really grow very close as a team. Which was very important as we ministered. I feel that the best thing about the Perth ministry was the wide range of different ministries we were exposed to. We often heard, “Who me, work in the nursery, No Way!” but after we worked there, it was great to hear
how the Lord really blessed. That same testimony was heard often from different members of the team. We really learned how important and wonderful it is to rely on the Lord when entering into areas we know nothing about. Many of us had opportunities to teach a Sunday School lesson or do a bus story. (Sometimes with ad vance notice, sometimes not.) It was great to see the Lord work when we relied on Him. I know we will always have fond memories of Satur day Night devotions, the skits we did, working with the bus kids singing: Countdown or Father Abraham for the 10th time, getting our Sunday dress clothes covered with snacks, trying to get keys down from the beams in the gymnasium, the special banquets, conventions and activities we were invited to and all that great home- cooked food and family fellowship we enjoyed when in vited to people’s homes. Johnstown Baptist Church
As a March student, I was on the Johnstown weekend ministry for only one quarter, but it was really a valuable and enjoyable experience. It gave me the op portunity to work with nine other people as a team and to get to know them out side of the busy school environment. I guess the thing that had the greatest im pact in my life was watching God work, and seeing how He directs us. The church there is growing, and it was great to see people getting saved and see that their lives have really changed, and that they’re witnessing to others. It’s been a real privilege to be with these people, and to let God use me in helping them grow, and in working with the youth group. Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart deviseth his way, but the Lord directeth his steps.” I’ve seen this so clearly in the things we did, and the peo ple He put me with at Johnstown. I didn’t think I was doing anything special, but other people would tell me how they could see the Lord using me. I praise Him for helping me, for the people I stayed with, and for the things I learned on this ministry.

Mountain Chapel
The Petersburg Ministry was an ex cellent learning experience but most of all it was a challenge. Every weekend we got the opportunity to put into practice what we learned here at the Bible Institute. It showed me that to be the person I need to be for Christ I have to give everything over to the Lord. And it is only by God’s grace that I keep a pure testimony for Christ. During the weeks spent at Mountain Chapel, God revealed to me the uni queness and scope of the relationship believers have with one another as part of the family of God. The weekends soon proved to be wonderful times of growth, sharing with the members and learning from them. The growth I witnessed there brought joy to my heart and increased my confidence in my Lord and the work He has begun in me. God seems to work out similar things in each of our lives — the major thing seems to be trusting Him at

Westerlo Baptist Church
Ministry? Our local church was more than a ministry ... it was a family of love. The Lord showed us and taught us so much. Westerlo has a unique youth ministry. We became involved in First Baptist Church and were part of it. We each thank the Lord for putting us there. We were involved in Junior and Senior High Youth groups, Sunday School Classes, Children’s Church, and youth choirs. The Lord brought each of us with a different talent together to form a team. We were able to see so much change taking place in those precious lives. We stayed with different families each week and became part of them. We learned from the lives of the families im portant aspects of living. Youth Pastor Steve Greggo would in volve us as much as any team could be in volved. We could put into practice on the weekends what we had learned during classes. It was a great year and we thank the Lord for this fantastical experience.

Corinth Baptist Church
The weekend ministry at Corinth was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I’m sure that I can speak for the rest of our group when I say this. The church had a closeness and a love which truly showed us what the love of Jesus Christ really is. Our group as a whole shared in a close unity between us which enabled us to accomplish much for the Lord. One of the exciting ways that we all grew was when we went out on visitation. Being able to in vite people out to church and to share the love of Christ was all new to many of us. Through this we saw many peo ple receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and also saw people restored back into fellowship. One of the greatest motiva tions that we all had was our pastor. He was truly a servant for the Lord and showed us what it really means to be a servant. Some of the more memorable things which took place throughout the year were seeing our prayers answered for a church bus, watching this bus ministry grow, and seeing young people’s lives changed by the power of Jesus Christ in their lives. Also as a leader it was really neat to see the willingness of each member of our weekend ministry when asked to do something. We all had a real servant saint perspective and all grew in Christ as they gave themselves to the Lord. Our group grew in our compassion for the lost and the physical needs of many needy children which at tended the church. We saw a body of believers which had little in the way of material possessions but had a great love for their Savior. Through our year this has enabled all of us to really grow closer to our brothers and sisters in Christ. We can all truly say that we are glad to be a part of the family of God. My ministry this year was “Corinth ”. We had a great team. 1learned a lot about the local church that I never realized before. The motivation, the discipline, and desire to see people saved was the main things for us to see. The best part was the church growth and seeing young teenagers out witnessing and learning right along with our team. It was a stretching ministry but excellent. God really blessed us with wonderful families and friends forever.
