Thanksgiving
It’s a cool brisk Autumn day, deep in the month of November. Your alarm awakens you rather rudely from a fitful sleep. Suddenly, in your drowsiness you realize that today is Thanksgiving Fiesta Day. Early on in your Institute year, you will be initiated, perhaps for the very first time, about how Word of Life celebrates a holiday. Fun, Food and Fellowship join hands to send a spirit of thankfulness and unity to our wonderful Lord. Thanksgiving Fiesta Day started out bright and early with a crisp 2.5 mile run known as the Gobbler’s Gallop. The course winds its way through the trees, giving each of the 40 participants a few brief moments to reflect of the beauty of God’s creation. Before too long though, the runners once again become aware that the race will soon be over, and set their eyes of the finish line. Before anyone could have a chance at being bored, the Powder Puff football game between the B.I. and SYM girls was underway. Although the SYM girls had the advantage of experience from the past year, the superior muscle of the B.I. girls led them to victory. At the conclusion of the Powder Puff, the main attraction was ready to begin. Huge masses of muscle from both the B.I. and SYM met in the annual clash known as the Turkey Bowl. Again, superior talent and execution led the B.I. guys to a victory. The sporting activities of the day were followed by an afternoon of fellowship and food, as families and friends fellowshipped over an old fashioned turkey dinner. Dr. Harry Bollback followed the meal with a Thanksgiving message that challenged the hearts and lives of those in attendance. To top the evening off, Dr. Bollback led the Collegians in the season premier of “God’s Portrait of Love,’’ which wet our appetite for the many banquets and concerts still to follow.
