2 Timothy 3:14, “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it!’ It is said that the legacies we leave are based on the ones that we follow. Through the course of our lives it is the choices that we make that dictate the impact we spin into motion. 2 Timothy 3:14 lends the well-sought wisdom of following the lead of the teachers who come before us. Here at the Bible Institute, we have the privilege of studying about the greatest Teacher the world has ever known; Jesus Christ. Peace Pilgrim once said, “For light I go directly to the Source of Light, not to any of the reflections!’ Whose life is better to imitate than the one man who lived a perfect life of love, strength, and miracles. Like a drop of water makes a ripple on the smooth surface of a pond, so the actions of our lives create a ripple that could potentially affect the world. It is our own choices that dictate whether the repercussions will be ones of good works or destruction. Our goal for the year of 2009-2010 is to develop and learn how to live a life that is worth imitation, how to follow the purpose of God and not the temptations of the world. With the help of professors, staff, and friends, we have embarked on a journey of discovery: the discovery of how to follow the leading hands of Christ into a life driven, not by the things around us, but by the Word of God and the perfect life of Jesus. Having a foundation focused on our heavenly Father makes a clear set of footprints for others to follow in our wake. After we are gone, our legacy will be one that will exemplify the wisdom, love, and dedication that can only come from our relationship with God. When we look back on our lives, the thumbprint of God will be visibly clear in all that we have done. “Commit your ways to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun’.- Psalm 37:5-6

Legacy is all about casting a shadow that continues to influence lives long after we’re gone. I have been blessed over the years by godly men and women whose lives have had a huge impact on my own. Born into a Christian home in Illinois, I trusted Christ as my Saviour at an early age. Soon afterward, our family moved to the French Canadian province of Quebec to serve as missionaries there. At the age of 17 I dedicated my life to the Lord at a Word of Life Snow Camp and then attended the Bible Institute in Schroon Lake where a flame was lit for the Lord’s service that has never died out. Returning to Quebec, the Lord blessed me with a godly wife, three children, and exciting years of service in youth ministry and local church leadership which led to the opening of the first French Word of Life Bible Institute in 1994! Laurie and I never imagined that the Lord would lead us back to WOLBI where so much of the foundation of our lives

was laid so many years ago. Our first year has been a humbling and fulfilling adventure! We are I excited about what lies ahead as we continue to hold forth the Word of Life. God has burdened our hearts with a desire to see the Bible Institute continue to expand its reach in North America and around the world. Dear friend, what kind of legacy will you leave behind? Don’t waste your life by living for yourself! Instead, cast a long shadow of godliness that will impact the lives of others - forever! ^Hebrews 13:7 | WORD OF LIFE BIBLE INSTITUTE LIBRARY

I n the history of Word of Life, God has used ordinary men and women to do extraordinary things such as developing this tool, the Bible Institute, for training young men and women to evangelize their generation with the Gospel. God gave these people intense passion for Him and His letter to us; the Bible. These men and women, in short, believed God and had faith in the promises of Scripture, as it related to their lives and to the lives of everyone around them, and allowed themselves to be useful to God. bn: 'Daniel Bacon

Don then went on to Dallas Theological Seminary to receive his Masters in Theology in 1992. While at Dallas, Don served as a Teaching Assistant for Drs. Howard Hendricks and Mark Bailey. In 1992 he returned to Schroon Lake, New York to take the position of Assistant to the Director of Word of Life International Ministries. After assisting Paul Bubar for five years he was appointed as the Vice President of the Word of Life International Ministries Division. J oe Jordan came to know Christ as Savior through the influence of a Christian businessman who sent Joe to camp at Word of Life Island in 1961. Joe responded to the Gospel under the preaching of Jack Wyrtzen and God began changing the life of a troubled teenager into the life of a young man with a burning desire to be used by God to reach others. \ Joe graduated in 1969 from Tennessee Temple University with a bachelor of arts degree in Bible and Theology. He studied at Philadelphia College of Bible and Lynchburg College. He also holds a Doctor of Divinity degree from Tennessee Temple. In 1969, Joe was accepted as a full time missionary with Word of Life. Later that year he left for Argentina, where for the next 20 years, he founded and directed Word of Life. After serving five years as Senior Vice-President of Ministries, in 1995, Joe was appointed Director of Word of Life Fellowship International. In August of 1999, Joe was appointed Executive^ Director of the worldwide ministries of— Word of Life.

A s you enter the New York Word of Life Bible Institute campus you experience the rustle of the crisp, autumn breeze and the technicolor view of the fall foliage. With the scenic picture of Schroon Lake as a backdrop, the students bustle around in jackets and scarves, enjoying games of football and events like the Harvest Jamboree. This year, with the constant drizzle that carried over from summer, rain boots and umbrellas are the most popular fashion coupled with the sport of puddle jumping. And there is always the favorite past time of early Christmas caroling on Kenya Hill. With classes keeping us busy, and our every day schedule packed with things to do, the seasons seem to fly by. Before we know it, winter has blown in with a rush of snow, and the campus becomes nothing short of a winter wonderland. But even then, we hit the ice running (this is made easier for the girls because we can wear pants!). Right after our winter break, Snow Camp starts with a rush of young faces and soaring snow balls. Donning hats, gloves, boots, snow pants, and jackets, we brave the cold, plowing through the snow to get the Jack Wyrtzen Center, or to climb Hungary Hill to sled with our snow campers. Soon winter melts into the blue skies and warmer weather of spring, bringing on the fervor of new life and growth. Jumping into spring ministry, students go out of their way in helping the community. Growing in our faith, we begin to make bold steps while doing ministry and open air evangelism. The second year students head off on Missions Reality to put into effect all of the knowledge they have gained over the last two years, leaving for various countries to spread the word of God. Also on the traveling route, Collegians | take a trip to Florida for the production of Jesus Behold the Man. To finish off the year, we spring board into summer, as counselors or the work staff for the Word of Life summer camps. Either staying at the Ranch with the horses and bandit chases or heading over the Rock with Cardiac Hill and the Blob, the summer is filled with fun and challenging times as we learn to disciple and show others the love of Christ and the importance of having Him in your life.

Romans 12:4-5, "Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others" There are few greater joys that surpass learning and working in tandem with the body of Christ who love the Lord and whose passion it is to see a lost

world saved and the newborn, growing in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. That is the zeal of the students and faculty at Word of Life Bible Institute as we

interact with the world around us and strive to learn and implement how best to reach them and encourage them to grow in their various walks with the Lord.

9

As Christians operating in a work environment, God sometimes chooses to grow us in our relationships with one another, whether through discipline as His children or through success in our endeavors, ultimately making us more like Himself; able to be used by Him. The staff

and faculty of Word of Life Bible Institute are some of the best in their unique areas, able to take the Word of God and apply it to their lives and to the lives of others as it relates to their respective positions. Each one disciples one or more students or interns and is held responsible for their own spiritual development by their own disciplers. Overall their professionalism and personal testimonies speak for themselves and serve as a reminder for their fruitful ministry here at Word of Life Bible Institute.

When we were told that the first year at the Bible Institute was intense, there was absolutely no exaggeration in that statement. Plunging right into the Word, we are constantly saturated with the wisdom of God through our daily lives. With wonderful teachers and guest lecturers, a firm foundation is laid down before us, giving us the spring board to dive into the world and still land firmly on our feet. With the amount of homework we have, study hours are welcomed by all the students. But the work is more than worth it, as it brings us closer to our Father, sharpening our senses to the nuances of His character. This year is all about growth, getting to know fellow kindred spirits, and forming relationships. Most importantly however, is how we grow in the grace of God. Always keeping busy, first year students never seem to stop moving. Whether it is ministry, open air evangelism, drama, Collegians, or our service assignments, there is never a shortage of things to do. One of the goals of Word of Life is to not only give us a solid background in biblical knowledge, but also to create a concrete work ethic inspired by the servitude of Christ. The whole year is a focus on making our lives more like our Saviorfe. A life of boldness, patience, service, and love; a life worthy of im itation. by. Kate Beil

I used to be full of bitterness and anger in light of reality. Christ transformed my life when I committed my life to Him at the age of 15, after coming to the end of myself and realizing how much He truly loved me. It has been a journey, but God has been making me into a clean vessel that can “pour out” for Him. OAE was one of the most amazing experiences and one of the most dependent times of my life. I had been praying that night that somehow, despite my weaknesses, God would shine through me. I noticed a woman who looked lost, so I asked if she needed help. She said yes, so I asked a man for directions and she left. On her way, I slipped her a tract. Discouraged that we hadn’t been able to talk more, I knew God would use what I had placed in her hands. A few minutes later I looked up and she was back. I walked over and she began speaking to me. She explained that she was a believer and had separated from her Hindu husband and family because of her beliefs. She had been lonely and afraid, praying for encouragement. She usually did not take this road home but felt lea to come a different way. She said, “You - have the face of an angel - there is something different about you and I sense it!’ I knew then that my prayer had been answered. Christ was shining

through me to show His tender love to this desperate woman. As long as I am a broken vessel, humbled and giving Christ total control, He will shine through me.

When I came to Word of Life, I was only using it as an escape. I started out in STC in Florida after hitting rock bottom at home. It was already past the deadline to start STC but I had sent an e-mail to Florida asking them to put me anywhere. They had just lost a wait staff girl in the Conference Center, so I quit my job, packed my things and was off to Florida. When I arrived in Florida I felt out of place, but the girls down there took me in and broke down all of my barriers I had built. Through the testimonies of my amazing friends, I accepted Christ. I worked that whole summer and God tried to start working on me, but I couldn’t let go of my old life. I left STC with a whole bunch of great friends and a small relationship with Goa, but when I got home, I was right back where I started. I began working again trying to stay out of trouble, but I was trying to ao it on my own strength. My mom decided to visit some family in NY and wanted me to visit the BI. At this time I had decided I wanted to be free to do my own thing. But God softened my heart and my mom was able to talk me into going to the BI. My dad didn’t support my decision to go, so my mom and I were scurrying around trying to'pull the money together. Again, I quit my job, packed my stuff and was off to New York. Since I have been at Word of Life, God has taken me and stretched me farther than I have ever been. Through campus life and snow camp, I have learned a load about the Word of God and how it can be applied to everyday life. My relationship with God is solid and still growing. The future is up in the air but I know that I want to be a teacher since I already have my credentials. I’m feeling very called to Jamaica so I may be soaking up the sun and bringing the gospel to a nation with gangs and violence.

I grew up Catholic and it was an environment where I wasn’t introduced to Christ. When I was still in elementary school my parents came to know the Lord and thatfe when I first learned about Him. I don’t exactly remember when I said the infamous “prayer” to ask Jesus into my heart, but it wasn’t a true profession of faith. I really didn’t understand the Gospel at all. About the age of 14, I encountered drugs. It wasn’t an addiction, it was just something that felt good and I did it from time to time with my friends. When I entered into high school I started questioning the existence of God and eventually wanted nothing to do with God. I answered my question by the way I lived, there was no God. With high school, came alcohol. This quickly took over my life but I did not care. I was selfish and disrespectful to every person I came into contact with, especially women. I only cared about my gain. At this point, I entered into college which was just a bigger stage for everything in my life to flourish. Many circumstances led me to a point where I recognized the life I was living was meaningless and disappointing; and I started to attned church again. I was saved at the age of 20, through a friend who brought me to Matt 7:21-23. Christ has truly transformed me and has had many victories in my life, but there is still a lot of work to do (Phil 1:6). I look forward to the ministry God has for me (Acts 20:24). Praise God for our salvation and not just keeping us where we are at!

My name is David but most people call me Laser. I was saved at the age of 4, loved the Lord and I wanted to serve Him, yet I never included Him in my plans. I never planned on going to a Bible school, ever, so when my parents told me I was coming to the Bible Institute after high school I felt like they were disrupting my plans. My dream was always to-right out of high school-join the military, serve a couple of years and then become a big city SWAT officer. Over the summer of 2009 while I was work ing STC on the Word of Life Island the Lord really convicted my heart during a message in Bible Hour. It was a message on Jonah and how he was running away from the will of God. At that point God changed my heart and I realized the Bible Institute, was exact ly where I needed to be. I still feel called to the military and I am currently planning on joining the Navy SEALs in August; however, I know I will be grounded in my faith and will be following the will of God.

This year at Word of Life God has changed my life in more ways than I ever thought possible. The biggest things that He has taught me are that, first of all, my life is not about me and my abilities but about God and how He can best use me to further His Word. Second, He loves me! It never really seemed all that big of a deal to me that God sent Jesus to die for my sins until I was faced with just how ugly sin was and, as a sinner, how ugly I am, yet how perfect Jesus is. He suffered separation from the Father and extreme torture to save a wretch like me. And last, that God is enough to satisfy all of my needs. He is all that I will ever need. He was, He is and He is to come. This year I have learned what it's like to be broken and I have learned what it's like to be healed by the wonderful grace of my loving Savior. He is everything that I will ever need, and it really is all because of Jesus that I am alive sheila. J’eterson

"While life has its everyday battles and trials, God has helped me overcome them and take steps of faith through what I've learned, both in and out of the classroom. The opportunities given to me to counsel campers have taught me the meaning of patience, Being counseled myself, by godly peers, has brought me to a new level of maturity. It's amazing to see what God has to offer when we dedicate our lives to serve Him and give Him all glory and praise. Coming out of a rough lifestyle of drugs and alcohol, Word of Life has shown me the importance of dying to self and letting Christ live in me. All this world has to offer is vanity, so we need to share the promise of Jesus Christ, the coming King! James 1:2-4 "My brethren, count it alljoy when yeJail into various trials, knowing that the testing of yourfaith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking nothing" 25

Unique to the New York campus, students from Owen Sound and Quebec, Canada and Hudson, Florida come to the beautiful campus in Pottersville, New York to attend the Word of Life Bible Institute Second-Year Program. The second year is a challenging experience, taking concepts learned in first year and applying them to reaching out to an ever-changing world with the Gospel of Christ. Class in Council Hall quickly turns to outside ministry as more options are open to the second year class. Deeper subjects and advanced homework are presented and include invaluable lessons in life and ministry. The irreplaceable duo, Dr. Wicks and Dr. Davis, return as resident professors, teaching subjects such as Apologetics,I&IIThessalonians, Homiletics, andHaggai&Zechariah. Professors from other Christian colleges and organizations come from outside to lecture on the evangelization of various groups including, Muslims, Catholics and various other cults and religions. Looked upon as leaders on campus, the second-year class is expected to set the example for the first-year students contemplating returning for second year. by Ttanici Bacon

Word of Life loves to challenge their students, whether it is in ministry, service assignments, workloads, or any other job. Coming back from break we jump right into the Snow Camp season, getting down to work and keeping busy Wintertime being one of our busiest seasons, things can get a little overwhelming. So just imagine what it is like for the select students that come into our midst in this fresh, new season. February students have to immediately jump into our curriculum and right into the hectic camp season. Along with meeting new people and adjusting to classes, they immediately get to move into the fun and exciting field of ministry that comes with this time of the year. Many take it in stride, learning quickly that you have to rely on the strength of our mighty God to keep you going. Leah Carpenter said that it was easy transitioning because, “I knew I was going to come here since I was twelve, so I have been preparing myself. I did STC where everything was scheduled so I knew pretty much how it was going to be. It also helps that the February students are welcomed into our close knit Word of Life Bible Institute family, embraced in the unity of our Lord.

Graduation, whether it is from the freshman or sophomore program at Word of Life Bible Institute, marks the continuation of education for some and for others it marks finality, having achieved what they came for in a 2 year Bible school. In this case, graduating in the middle of a year is undesirable for sociological elements. They are leaving friends without even a grand-to-do like those who will graduate in the late summer will get, but quietly leaving the scene or continuing on to the sophomore program. Having weathered at least two Snow Camp seasons at the time of graduation, they will have bonded unbreakable relationships that they will carry into the future. So, in whatever case our winter students find themselves, we wish them a successful ministry and Godspeed as they make a difference in the world and reach their generation with the gospel of Christ. by. Characterized by maturity and their studious work, amid the ebb and flow of everyday life, off- campus students grace Word of Life Bible Institute with their impacting presence every year. They come and take a giant step to “press pause”on their lives or even change the entire course of their future by going back to college. These are men and women that come from all stages of life, to learn the Word of God. When asked, “How does being an off-campus student affect your family?” Dawn Brooks, single mother of three, answered, “To be honest, being an off-campus student is taxing on family life when and only when God is not in control. If God is placed first in onek life, He will give you the strength, time and energy to spend time with your family that is much more fulfilling..!’ Dawn travels an hour each way to commute to class every weekday morning. Talking about the joys and expenses of commuting to class every weekday, first-year Tamara Davidson said, “I travel from Schroon Lake for classes, and what a beautiful drive! It allows you to really appreciate the gifts of nature that God has given us. On the down side there is the extra cost of gas, and with limited income it can be a challenge sometimes. Also, if you have evening classes, there is the extra expense of traveling twice a day..!’ Cory Jennings, a married, off-campus student recommends the program to other adults saying, ”... it’s a great experience and is very reasonable for a family who is interesting in attending Word of Life Bible Institute to further their (biblical) education.”For sure, off-campus students add dynamic and vibrancy that would otherwise be absent.

America is often called the Great Melting Pot for the vast diversity that spans across our nation. Here at the Bible Institute, we have our own little recipe of students brewing. Blessed with the opportunity to have international students, we have a varied mixture of foreign flavors. Coming from different countries to America takes some transitioning for our foreign students. Nadine Scholtz, a first year student from Germany, says that the hardest part about adapting to classes are the misunderstandings from the different cultural backgrounds and academically, to understand the questions in the right way!’ But Nadine has really enjoyed the experience. “The fellowship with all the young people... and all the international students!’Where college food is usually a transition for most kids, it is especially a transition for our international students. Keeping a more positive view, Diego Alvarez, another first year from Peru, says, “Mom’s cooking is the best, but this is not bad!’ With so many different nationalities and cultural backgrounds, our student body is a multifaceted and dynamic assembly of devoted followers of the Lord. For as the body is one, As 1 Corinthians 12:12 says and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ!’

Traveling in from all parts of the world, are students from 53

different countries, which certainly makes campus life more vibrant and seasoned.

2 Timothy 2:15 , "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth

not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth!' It is our prayer at Word of Life

Bible Institute that every student that passes through our doors turns out on the other side an "approved workman", able to move into their next school or directly into ministry with the convictions necessary to hold strong to their faith and to be a faithful witness not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as Paul says in Romans 1:16. The Academic Department of Word of Life Bible Institute headed up by Dr. Tom Davis, does their best to provide quality lecturers whose personal lives reflect what they are teaching at the podium, making for a profitable academic year at Word of Life Bible Institute.

a I am a professor and the Academic Dean of Word of Life Bible Institute. As professor I teach various courses so that no student in New York, Florida or Ontario will escape my kind ministrations every year! As Academic Dean I oversee the scheduling of the Guest Lecturers in New York,

Florida and Owen Sound, Ontario. The role of Academic Dean also oversees all aspects of the academic program from accreditation to course selection and record keeping including the guidance of all the personnel necessary to accomplish these tasks. In addition, I speak for Word of Life in local churches and in the camp ministry when needed. I also edit and write for the Word of Life Quiet Time commentary. I came to know the Lord at Word of Life Inn as a seven-year-old summer camper. My family came back every summer to be refreshed by the Word of Life experience. In high school I was encouraged in a Word of Life Bible Club in my local church. Thinking that I would become an engineer/contractor like my father, I attended Word of Life Bible Institute to get grounded in the Bible before going to engineering school. During the course of that year I went from wanting to be a contractor, to wanting to be a missionary pilot, to wanting to be a missionary to Israel, to not knowing what I wanted to be, but realizing I needed more training. I transferred to Lancaster Bible College where I met and married my wife, Susie. After three years at seminary the position opened up here at Word of Life Bible Institute. Thirty-two years later (and six children, five sons-in-law, nine grandchildren, three moves and lots of memories!) we are still impressed with the ministry opportunity and, Lord willing, hope to be ministering full time with Word of Life Bible Institute until the class of 2024! y journey to Christ began in a Christian

home. I have five siblings (four brothers and a sister) and like clockwork every Sunday the whole family dressed up in our finest clothes and headed to church. My earliest memories are of attending a different church every week.

My parents were looking for a church that taught the Bible clearly and consistently. We did not find such a church until I was a young teenager. Unfortunately that church was so small that it was basically our family and several older couples. This may account for my cynicism and rebellion throughout my high school years. At 19, however, I realized my sinful condition and accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. I drifted in my spiritual life for the next four years but eventually realized that I knew next to nothing about the Bible and began to look for a Bible College. A friend and mentor gave me a catalog for Word of Life Bible Institute and I was immediately attracted to the program. I came to the Bible Institute in 1973 with a simple one year commitment to study the Bible. During that year I made a commitment to do whatever God desired of me. He soon gave me a passion for teaching the Word. That commitment led me to Bible school, seminary and eventually back to the Bible Institute. I met my future wife at the Bible Institute and we were married after my junior year at Tennessee Temple University (1975). The Lord has blessed us with four children (all graduates of the Bible Institute) and four grandsons (future students of the Bible Institute). It has been my privilege for the last 30 years to teach young men and women here at Word of Life. It has been my constant prayer that God will use me to give the same passion to my charges that was given to me during my time as a student.
