Back m the late 40 s and early 50 s, along with my Dad, Mom, brother and two sisters, I came to know Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. Subsequently, after a bit of a battle with the Lord concerning serving Him vocationally in ministry, He led me to Philadelphia College of Bible (where I met my wife, the former Joanna Slavin) for preparation to do exactly that. Then followed 34 years of pastoring in four locations, New York, Michigan, New Jersey and North Carolina, during which time doctoral studies were pursued and completed at Western Conservative Baptist Seminary of Portland, Oregon. Along the way, the Lord blessed us with three children, Christine, Charles, Jr., and George. Numerous stints serving as a guest speaker on Word of Life Island led to numerous other opportunities with Word of Life, and in the summer of 1977, I accepted Jack's invitation to serve as the Theology Professor at Word of Life Bible Institute (three hours per week) while continuing to serve at my New York pastorate. That assignment, along with a number of pastoral moves, led to 22 years of serving Word of Life as an Adjunct Professor, not only at the New York Bible Institute, but at numerous other Word of Life locations around the world. Then in 1999, concurrent with his taking the reins of leadership at Word of Life, Joe Jordan asked me to serve full-time with Word of Life, and sensing that as a wonderful opportunity to train another generation to take over when my generation’s task was completed (much in the manner of Paul with Timothy, Titus and others), I readily accepted that invitation. These past 11 years of serving in that capacity have brought me great joy, as well as the human satisfaction in knowing that long after my stint in the Lord's service has come to a conclusion, the ministry the Lord has given me will continue in the lives of the students I was permitted to influence.
