Competitiveness: We are all competitive in one way or another; some more than others! Whether it is a game of football or just a fun game of musical chairs, everyone likes to win! Where is the line drawn between good fun and over-the-top competitive? This is one of the many challenges of sports ministry. The two official sports teams at Word of Life Florida are guys’ basketball and guys’ soccer. Although the challenges may be great, the power of God is greater. Our teams looked to God and overcame those challenges and also ended up having good seasons. The basketball team started out strong winning their very first game of the season. After that great first game things were not as easy for the basketball team. They had to compete with missing players each week and injuries that plagued certain players all season. The basketball team never stopped competing hard and giving it their best each and every week. They refused to “lay down” for anybody, but it wasn’t enough to get them another win. When playoff time rolled around they didn’t make it by the first round. The soccer team also started out the season with a win in an exhibition match. But when the season started it was a different story. The team started off really slow, not getting a win for the first couple ofgames. The season didn’t end there, however, and as it continued so did the soccer team’s chemistry and ability. As well as trying to win games, the teams both tried to impact the lives of the men they played with. God used the teams and the students to show His love to the other men in the league. Whether ups or downs or highs or lows all the sports teams competed their hardest and gave their best for Christ.

They also honored Christ with their actions and ministered to the unsaved. So despite the record or the score, the players on the sports teams gained the victory in the eyes of Christ.
