g i a j sSoccer This fall I had the opportunity to play on the men’s soccer team. I was one of the captains, along with Curtis Schenke and Luke W arren. I mostly played the position of striker but also in the midfield throughout the season. Before coming to Word of Life I had imagined what it would be like to play college soccer and was looking forward to
the season. I knew it was a ministry but that was way in the back of my mind. I surely was in for a surprise! I learned quickly that I wasn’t playing for a typical soccer team but was on another one of Word of Life’s m inistry team s. Soccer w asn’t for an activity to be involved in but a way to impact lives for Christ. The season really stretched me. I’ve been playing soccer literally my whole life and up until my senior year of high school it was all about me. Soccer was for my glory, my fame, and to lift up my name on and off the field. This year totally changed that! I learned that I can use the sport I love for Godfe glory, His fame, and to
lift up Jesus Christ to all who watch me. Using soccer as a ministry was challenging. Playing an aggressive sport for an hour and a half and then trying to share the gospel can be tough. But it was well worth it. It changed my whole attitude on and off the field. Our team would pray and share the gospel with the other team after each game. This year our team learned that it’s simply not about soccer. It’s about glorifying God. -Aaron Young
