It was truly a privilege to go on the trip to Guatemala this year. The trip was amazing and truly was life changing. Our group of 14 participated in the drama, Born Again to a Living Hope, with members of the Word of Life staff there. We performed the Drama in eight schools and one orphanage. The gospel message was presented and after we were able to go out with a translator and counsel the students. I went on this mission’s trip to serve. Ithought Iwas perfectly capable of serving with my own two hands, cleaning cabins, painting, washing walls etc. but when I found that we would be performing in a drama and counseling kids who don’t even speak the same language as us,
my confidence in myself changed a little. I didn’t know how to act in a drama and Ididn’t speak Spanish. By the second or third day I felt useless. What good was I doing there? Everything I did they didn’t need me for. But while we were there I was realizing, God doesn’t need us to save people. It is not about what we can do, but about what he can do through us in our total inadequacy. God doesn’t need us to save people, but allows us to work for him for our benefit. This was my first mission^ trip and my first time being out of the country. It was incredible. God used this trip to teach me so much and has lit a fire in me for doing His work that I hope never leaves but continues to grow. I would go back in a heartbeat. -Lauren Karnes
