sorrow" There is a great value in having open relationships with others! Without others in our lives, life slows to a grind rather rapidly! The secret of survival is not simply enjoying life's joys and enduring life's sorrows; but in sharing both with others! My prayer for this year is revival. For God's people to get back to the life of the Word of God in their lives in a rich way and together we can reach the world from the Bible Institute.
Team Work is critical for God's work. Jesus prayed in John 17 for unity for his followers. Paul in Philippians 2 challenged them to have the same attitude as Jesus. That attitude is one of Unity. King Solomon said it succinct in Ecclesiastes. 4:9 when he said, "Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor" Here at the Bible Institute we recognize the power of working together for the cause of Christ. An old Swedish proverb - that hangs in many a kitchen in Sweden - says: "Shared joy is a double joy, shared sorrow is a half

the next quarter swiftly approaches. Rest from the winter, at last it seems, and then not all too soon, summer is here. Whether on the Island, Ranch, Campground or Inn, the Lord bathes the summer months in warmth and salvation. New Christians are born, stagnant Christians are revived, and growing Christians are taught the Word of God in this blessed place on Schroon Lake. Unique to New York is the second year program, if you most sincerely are led to return to this place of life and growth. Students from Florida, Owen Sound, On tario and, of course, New York come and receive a more in-depth study of Gods Word, further preparing them for life and for ministry.

Students from all over the world come and study the Word of God for a whole year in our facilities making our campus a vibrant place of many ethnic backgrounds. The fall quarter with its vivacious leaves and extravagant scenery moves quickly into the frosty ice of winter. The lounge is a perfect place to warm yourself and catch up with friends. NEW YORK
A sweet aromatic atmosphere welcomes all who step onto the Word of Life property in Hudson, Florida. The palm trees sway in the hot southern breeze that gives you the sensation of taking a drink of water every time you breathe. But the sun is going down and so the lightly clouded sky erupts into fantastic colors of orange, pink and blue. Stars poke out here and there and the prematurely visible moon rests high in the flaming sky. A slight dis turbance annoys you for a moment as you realize that the bubbles have turned off in the hot tub again. Reluctantly you step out and twist the timer again returning to your contemplations. Noise escapes to you from out of He-Brews and you lean back and watch a furious game of ping pong take place as if lives were in the balance. A stray verse floats through your mind that you attempted to memorize earlier that day, which sparks your imagination again. Unique to Florida is Gospel Productions. Every year, students from the Bible Institute in New York join with Florida students to form the cast for the Christmas and Easter Production. As summer approaches, nerves tense and campers arrive excited and energetic. Soon the counselors, quiet and scared at first, are as exuberant, battling the opposing team with vigor and energy. Then, like a happy memory, it all fades back into memory lane and you realize you're back in the hot tub a couple days before graduation, still needing to pack to go home. Youre not fully convinced second year is for you but feel a steady tug at your heart to move forward.
"O LORD, how great are thy works! And thy thoughts are very deep."

I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I attended Monroe Community College and Wayne State University in Michigan and worked in Microbi ology before coming to the Bible Institute. I graduated from the BI in 1985 and came on staff in the Deans Department as Assistant Dean of Women. I became the Registrar around 1996 and have held that position since that time. My hobbies include reading and quilting, but my favorite things to do are hiking and kayaking. I was saved at age 14 at Temple Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. God saw fit to call my sister, brother, and myself to salvation on the same day. One of my favorite verses has always been John 13:1 which says in part: ...’when Jesus knew that His hour was come, that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were ’ end!’ the world, he loved them untc

First year Word of Life Bible Institute is a truly humbling experience! If you're coming right from high school, you start all over again at the freshman level. Not only have you entered into the world of college but also the intense study of the Word of God. You won't spend as much time studying one book for an entire year anywhere else. As you seek out what God has for your future, you are plunged into a work and school situation. First year prepares you both for the academic world and the work force as you're given a service assignment to do along with all of your schoolwork. Whether you've been placed in the
kitchen or on maintenance, it is a direct purpose of Word of Life to build into you a sense of work ethic before you head out into the world either to support yourself or further your education. But, most importantly, the first year program helps give you a strong foundation in the Word of God. Wherever you go you are prepared to go into this world standing firm in what you believe. Word of Life Bible Instituted first year program is an altogether wonderful year spent in the study of the Word of God, in which you couldn't ask for a more rewarding experience.

"I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me!' Philippians 4:13 I started to think about Word of Life in my senior year of High school. I wasn’t sure where to go to college or if I should even go. I realized though that where ever I go, I should have a good biblical foundation. So I decided to go to Word of Life. Now I’m getting a biblical foundation to prepare me to have a biblical world view where ever I go next, whether that is college or the work world.

“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, [and] rivers in the desert!’ Isaiah 43: 18, 19 I was sent on a missions trip to Canada, where my cousin, Alex Ferrell was the summer missionary for the group of people we would be working with. One night I was speaking to him about the past 5 months and just the pain that I was in and how I felt like God had totallv abandoned me. He J prayed with me and told me that God had never left me but that I had turned away from Him. After that I knew I needed a change and a fresh start in my relationship with God. So he said, what about the Bible Institute? And I said, they don’t accept people like me at the Bible Institute. He said, apply and find out. So I did and three weeks after that I was here for Resident Assistant training scared out of my mind. But I totally and completely relied on the Lord for the first time in a long time. And it has been an amazing journey ever since the very first day I set foot on this campus.

God had my father and older brothers attend a missions trip at which they met a nearby youth group and we began attending. Through that youth group I came to two snow camps and two summer camps. Through those two and a half weeks I came to the realization that students who come here have a relationship with God I had not seen anywhere else up to that time. f you would have asked any second year student at the beginning of their first year if they had any plans of returning, almost anyone would have told you "no". But God had different plans, Second year offers a very unique set of classes building from the foundation that was laid during first year. Taking classes such as Discipleship and Philosophy of Ministry really helps the students to see how any job can be a ministry based on biblical principles, The Missions' Reality class brings the ministry alive for every student, It's a chance for them to see and experience firsthand what is involved and required in full-time ministry. The classes wouldn't be the same
without our resident lecturers, Dr, Davis and Dr, Wicks, bringing their wealth of knowledge to the classroom, Mr. Cartwright who teaches Bible Study Methods first quarter then uses the rest of the year to teach the men how to preach, while the girls enhance their public speaking skills with Mrs, Oris. These classes take place in Council Hall with almost 150 students, This was a much smaller class than first year and it brought unity, especially since the majority of students are interested in being involved in ministry, With all that second year offers,

" Call unto me, and will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not, " Jeremiah 33:3 I had heard about the Bible Institute since I was younger because my church used : to be involved in it, My sister Amanda also attended the Bible Institute for her first year of college and she loved it. My junior year I went for campus days and enjoyed it but really didn't think that it was something I wanted to do. After getting into my senior year in high school I started praying about what I should do the following year. In my mind the Bible Institute wasn't really an option. During the spring I thought about what I was going to do and I had set my mind to going to a community college near my house, but God changed my heart and after praying about it and talking to my mom about it, I made the choice to come. God definitely wanted me here because He has blessed me in so many ways while have been here, and He has taught me so much. I have learned and grown more than ever before.

instrumental in my experience at the Bible Institute. Coming in January forced me to grow in ways I would not have grown otherwise because I was completely outside my comfort zone. The Lord has January students come at that time for a reason and it becomes a beautiful blessing. Also, going through the application of the summer quarter makes for a refreshing fall quarter of putting the final pieces of the puzzle in place.
anuary students are a special breed of the Word of Life Bible Institute udents. Our school year is completely different than the average Bible Institute students year. Jumping right into Snow Camp while trying to make friends, learn the lingo, figuring out the classes, service assignments, and how student life works is a wild experience that strengthens January students in a unique way. Many would term this time as “awkward” but I would not trade it because it was

ne of the greatest oppor tunities that Word of Life offers is for someone to be
of Christ.
“I was happy that Wor Life really wanted to help me all of the papers I needed toge to bring me here.” -Linda Hardt Germany. This past year there were around 60 international students from 19 different countries, and God is continuing to work in the student’s lives to bring His messag all around the world! “I liked how I had a con versation partner, and how Word of Life helped me in understand ing American culture, especially in church and ministry.” -Ji-Hoon (Paul) Shin, South Korea. From all the International Students: “Thank you, Wendy!”
able to come from any country in the world and get the specific help they need to learn God’s word. “When I came to the Bl, I only had $400 to live on and pay for school. But the International Department helped me come to America and met the needs that I had. Through that, God provided for me to go to school.” -Emmanuel Vala, Papua New Guinea. There’s no argument that the international students gave a definite spice to this year’s excite ment (Sakura, Sakura, Sakura...re member?), and how they were great roommates, friends, and examples

stretch and grow more than any other thing that Word of Life provides because you have a help mate (who knows all your weaknesses and faults) to help you walk the walk and not just keep what yotive learned, from class, head-knowledge. But, on the flip side, you do have a bigger chance of falling through. Like James 4:17 says, “Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin!’ This wasn’t a turn-off to me, but actu ally got me more excited about God!
r V 1 his past year I I was a married X second year stu dent. Coming back has been such an amazing experience! First off, since my wife and I were both students, who lived on campus and then were off campus, itis really the way to go to be off-campus. No R.A.; no D-Points for being messy; you get to do whatever you want for ministry; you can watch movies; you can listen to music without head phones; no study hours; and most importantly, you get to grow in Christ with your spouse! I truly think that being an off- campus student helps you

days a week to learn from books of the Bible ranging from Genesis to Revelation, and subjects from Theology to Biblical Counseling. The small class size made it possible for the students to become like a family, being able to participate in class and ask questions to increase the academic atmosphere. know that none of the students would complain of the warm weather sunny Florida brought, but that wasn't the only thing this year in Florida brought, it taught them things that will effect the rest of there lives and enable them to reach their generation for Christ. I know it is every students prayer that they will daily apply and live out the biblical principles they learned this year, and they want to strive to become the men and women of God that they are called to be.
N background is Word of Life is a great place to start your adult life. Being under the word of God daily, having professors such as Mr. Ingersoll and Dr. Scheide pouring into the lives of the students, both in and out of class is only one of the many benefits. The students have the privilege of hearing from men of god around the world teach them the word of God and this makes a life changing impact. As the year goes on it becomes so clear that God's word applies to every area of life. Just under 120 students file into the George Theis Center four

\\ I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me." Psalm 16:8 hadn't even heard of Word of Life until we hired a new youth pastor about 2 years ago. He suggested that I work at the summer camp; and so, after much prodding, I did. It took even more prodding to get me to come to the Bible Institute, but I finally got here.

"For I know the thoughts
that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end" Jeriemiah 29:11 t4e>w yrxx c-avws, \o WOLBI- I came to Word of Life because I really wanted to take a year off to just learn about the Bible. When my sister came here I saw how it changed her and I wanted that too. During my second year at West Coast camp we were in the Bible all the time and that is when I decided to come to Word of Life, so I would have a full year devoted to studying the Bible.

Florida c the God of hope fill you with a and peace in believing that ye may abound i hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost” R omans 15:13 ne time a year, everyone gathers together at the Word of Life Conference Center in Florida to specifically focus on the impact of international id the ministry that the students and staff in have. With international flavor, costumes, music and guest speakers, the students and staff are challenged to consider how they can be a part of international missions, supportively or possibly even as a missionary on a foreign field themselves. This gives the students a broader view of how much our world needs the Gospel, not just on other ' ’ ' 1' 1' 1 ‘ the states as well!

L ooking back on last year, I know that there are so many lessons I would not have learned if I hadn't been a Dorm RA, so I am very thankful for that! Transitioning this past fall into being a Service RA was very hard for me. It is completely different from being a Dorm RA, and I didn't understand why God would put me in this role of being one of the Service RA's for the snack shack. I was once again stretched beyond what I thought I could take and challenged to step up in my leadership role. In the dif ficult times, I questioned why God would have me in this place. But every time, He would say, "Trust Me, Rachel. I know what I'm doing!' That has been a reoccurring theme these past two years. I love my job now, and the ministry opportunities that are available to me, because they surpass the other ones that I thought I wanted! God is so sovereign, and I don't know why it surprises me every time His plans go so much better than mine! I love being an RA! - Rachel Boddie

B eing the Tech Service RA was a lot of things: challenging, fun, nerve-racking and sometimes tir ing, but I'm so glad I was able to do it this year. One of the coolest aspects was being able to work with the professors and interact with them. The theme of this school year was teamwork, and one of the coolest teamwork aspects that I was able to experience was the opportunity to be a servant, SRA stands for "Service Resident As sistant' and I tried to take that responsibility to heart. It was one of the biggest compliments I had all year when I heard Dr. Scheide tell one of the other professors that the tech team was very servant- minded, Tech is about working behind the scenes, and you should never know we are there because, if you do, that means something is going wrong. I learned a lot about putting others on my team first, especially during Conference Season, when the schedule got very busy. I really believe that the Lord put me in this position because he wanted me to grow not just in my tech knowledge, but also as a servant and a leader. I grew in all three. It was hard sometimes, but those were the times when I learned the most, They could have picked somebody else for the position and It was a huge honor to have the job that I did I still don't feel completely worthy. I thank God for giving me the strength and the knowledge to accomplish the work that was given to me. Jonathan Duckett

in New York or Florida will escape my kind ministrations every quarter. As Academic Dean I oversee the scheduling of the Guest Lecturers in New York, Florida and Owen Sound, Ontario. The role of Academic Dean also oversees all aspects of the academic program from accreditation to course selection and record keeping including the guidance of all the personnel necessary to accomplish these tasks. In addition, I speak for Word of Life in local churches and in the camp ministry when needed. I also edit and write for the Word of Life Quiet Time commentary. came to know the Lord at Word of Life Inn as a seven-year-old summer camper. My family came back every summer to be refreshed by the Word of Life experience. In high school was encouraged in a Word of Life Bible Club in my local church. Thinking that I would become an engineer/contractor like my father, I attended Word of Life Bible Institute to get grounded in the Bible before going to engineering school. During the course of year [went from wanting to be a contra wanting to be a missionary pilot, to wanti be a missionary to Israel, to not knowing wh I wanted to be, but realizing I needed more training, I transferred to Lancaster Bible College where I met and married my wife, Susie. After three years at seminary the position opened up here at Word of Life Bible Institute. Thirty-one years later (and six children, five grandchildren, three moves and lots of memories!) we are still impressed with the ministry opportunity and, Lord willing, hope to be ministering full time with Word of Life Bible Institute until the class of 2024!
