Word of Life Bible Institute Yearbook 2009

F or the past few years, the Ministries Department has tried to tailor ministries to the areas for which the students have a passion. This gives students a chance to gain experience in ministries they hope to pursue after they finish their schooling at the Bible Institute.

Students were given the opportunity to suggest ministries to the staff and several of the ministry teams were created this year because of this. These ministries have brought students together to reach out to focused groups of people.

T his year I had the opportunity to serve in the local jail ministry. Every Thursday night, a few of us would go to the local county jail. We would arrive each week and a handful of women would come to the Bible Study room where we would take a few minutes just to introduce ourselves and get to know them. We always opened the night with prayer requests and prayer and then went into the Bible Study where we incorporated the Gospel. At the end we would have a question and answer time. This was, by far, my favorite part because the women were so transparent and wanted to

learn. They didn’t worry about asking a “dum question” or anything, they just truly wanted to understand. Being part of the ministry helped me realize how much of a need there is for this type of ministry. The women and men there want to believe in something. They just don’t know what to believe in, and we got the chance to really show them who Christ is and why their belief should be placed in Him, as we built relationships with the women week
