team of Sam Willems, Charles Lord, Thomas Johnston and William Picton-Warlow came second. Sam was first in the individual giant slalom and Thomas was second. “I definitely want to push it as far as I can go with skiing. In European countries where I’ve been lucky enough to train in the last eight or
nine summers, they regard skiing as we might rugby. There’s a lot of interest and a lot of competition.” Sam hopes his wins this winter will make him eligible for the Winter Youth Olympics in Switzerland in January. “Right now, though, my main focus is schoolwork and getting back into the
gym. School’s very important to me and I’m very grateful to have teachers who are willing to help me catch up when I’ve not been in class.”
Go Louis!
What a year it has been for top athlete, Year 13 student and Head of Sport Louis Clark, who continues to make waves representing New Zealand in water sports. Louis was in Durban, South Africa, in September, competing with the New Zealand Junior Black Fins at the 2019 International Surf Rescue Challenge, and in December he will head to Kuwait with the New Zealand Junior Men’s Water Polo team for the FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo Championships.
