Charles Hazlitt Upham (3565) – the third cousin – attended Christ’s College in Flower’s House from 1923–1927 and Canterbury Agricultural College at Lincoln College. He became very well known for his bravery in Greece, Crete, Egypt and North Africa in World War II, which resulted in him being awarded a Victoria Cross and Bar. This Charles Hazlitt Upham’s portrait hangs in the College Dining Hall, a bust can be found in the administration area, and Upham Quad is named for him.

Their sons – William Guise Brittan (10), Frederick George Brittan (39) and Harry Lyttelton Brittan (66) – attended Christ’s College. Cyril Carlyon Coates (1681) attended College from 1895–1899.
