U<e O' THief n 'ffe The Schroon Moon lights up the night as a constant reminder that our victorious Lord could return at any moment.

Dean Riggott and Luke Villamater push each other towards victory by sharing verses from the Word with each other. Ton? Nicole Pedde and Jen Sisco enjoy talking to gether by the lake. Many students used class breaks to lift each other up with encourag ing words.

MoHoinA SiwHie God paints such beautiful colors every morning to show us His victorious glory and love.

2 Corinthians 15:57

On one occasion it was said, “To achieve genuine victory, one must first be faced with a seemingly insurmountable task.” And true it is that one cannot witness the defeat of his enemy without first fighting in the battle, nor win'ffe prize without running the race. Yet, as Christians, we possess an astonishing privilege through our faith in Christ: He has w^on the victory. Through his death and resurrection He has wron for us every battle, past, present, and future, and declared us, as His children, eternally victorious. At Word ol Life, we are given the unique opportunity to develop the foundation of faith necessary for living this life of to deepen our love for the Lord through the knowledge ol His word; to develop our reliance upon the unparalleled strength of our Savior. Through godly teaching and discipleship, we learn what it means to lay aside every weight, to put on the armor of God, and to run with perseverance this race marked out for us. Such opportunities are those we have taken hold of throughout our year here and will be forever grateful for as we journey forward in the Lord’s will for our lives. Clinging tightly to the truth of His wrord, we take heart that through every test, trial, and tribulation, w^e have been declared more than conquerors through Christ Jesus. Never will w^e forget that solely through His unconditional love and everlasting mercy we can truly experience what it means to live “... on the victory Aufe.”

^ CfyUlyz&r Defeat is never enjoyable. Victory is always wonderful. God’s plan for each of us is that we live on the victory side of things in this life. Paul said in I Corinthians 15:57- 58, “ But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our LordJesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, beye steadjast, unmovable, always abounding in the work oj the Lord” God’s plan for every believer is that we would be steadfast, unmovable and always abounding in an unstable, upside down and confusing world. This spirit of victory comes only through our personal relationship with Christ and His Word. God has promised us this victory if we will me'Ft His conditions of obedience to His Word. Friend, you can live “on the victory side” on a daily basis as you choose obedience over disobedience and, thus, victory over defeat (Rom. 8:28). Steadfastness and an abounding spirit are the direct by-product of obedience. God doesn’t say that perhaps He will give victory; He promises it. What a way to go!

Arlee Posted finds cjuiet peace in knowing that her Lord and Savior will return all victorious to take her to her heavenly home.

&tien-e -fae c2f»Hvv GeorgeTheis and Joe Jordan focus on the order of service before the opening of the 2004 missions conference.

To- -far Q ),teener Dr. Joe Jordan’s incredible way with words keeps his audience focused on the preaching of the Word.

of ^OrC JackWyrtzen, Founder ofWord of Life reads one of his favorite passages in the Word of God.

In 1941 Jack invited Harry Bollback to travel with him in his ministry playing the piano. Nine years later God called harry to Brazil; in 1969 Harry began co-directing Word of Life Fellowship.

Since Word of Life began years ago, we have never wavered from our goal to evangelize the world...and by the grace of God there is no turning back.

A World of Difference If it were possible to compound the ministry of Word of Life into one word, it would be faithfulness...the faithfulness of God as He has blessed and multiplied the ministry, and the faithfulness of fellow believers who have prayed and given of their time and monies. Jack Wyrtzen captured the essence of faithfulness by saying, “Only one life, ‘twill soon be past; only whats done for Christ will last.” It all started with a few men, they would meet in Jack Wyrtzen s home each week to study the Bible and pray. These men prayed that God would use there lives to reach their surrounding area, but God saw fit that their faithfulness would reach around the globe. Now with evangelism rallies, musical drama presentations, Christian camping for every age, Bible clubs in local churches, misson outreaches in over 46 countries, and Bible Institutes training young men and women to serve God around the world, one would think that we would consider ourselves victorious, but God is not finished yet. Jack Wyrtzen, Harry Bollback, George Theis, and Joe Jordan are names heard often around Word of Life. These men have one thing in common, their drive to see the youth of the world come to Christ and to train them in a way that they can in turn lead the next generation to the Lord. The goal of Word of Life in the beginning was to evangelize the world; 70 years later it is a goal not forgotten. The efforts of the faithful men and women who have given open-heartedly to this fellowship in money, time, and life have made it what it is today, victorious in Christ.

“It is the responsibilty of every generation to reach their generation for Christ”

~Thvp Lm? Harry and Millie Bollback keep everyone around them laughing with their antics. Harry is one of the founders ofWord of Life and has always been a joy to everyone he meets.

J o e JoRmNj

George Theis started his ministry as the first athletic director of the Word of Life Island, then moved on to starting the club ministry in Florida, then on to directing Word of Life in Recife, Brazil.

Joe Jordan started his history with Word of Life as a youngster when he attended Word of Life Island as a camper. Later he became a missionary to Argentina, currently he is the Executive Director of Word of Life Fellowship.

Having studied the Word since age 18, Dr. Whitcomb is passionate in his pursuit to convey the hidden truths of the Bible to every student he meets.

Lotmg Co Currently residing in Indianapolis, Dr. Whitcomb and his wife, Nonna, have been married for 31 years!

Though Whitcomb’s teachings are focused mainly on creation, he enjoys teaching on the topics of Bible Prophecy, Theology, and O.T. History as well.

§■ Authoring and co-authoring over ten books, charts, and video series, Whitcomb’s greatest desire is to take the knowledge given to him and pass it on to students like Daniel Saxton. 6

Dr. John Whitcomb is one of the most loved professors of WOLBI students from the past and the present.

“I want to know everything God said and tell everybody exactly what He said.” One of the unique and exciting elements of the Word of Life curriculum is the weekly rotation of guest lecturers. Various well-known authors and speakers, seasoned in their study of the scriptures, arrive to WOLBI each week to impart godly wisdom upon the student body. For one such guest, this weekly visit has become an annual tradition. For the past four decades, God has enabled Dr. John C. Whitcomb to come and share his extensive knowledge of the Old Testament with students of both the first and second year classrooms. A graduate of both Princeton University and Grace Theological Seminary, Dr. Whitcomb bears knowledge in a variety of subjects. From Old Testament History, to Bible Prophecy, to Creation and the Genesis Flood, Dr. Whitcomb has dedicated his life to the teaching and writing of such topics. Beginning his teaching career in 1951, Dr. Whitcomb taught at Grace Theological Seminary until 1990 when he began taking his work abroad speaking as a guest lecturer in universities, seminars, and seminaries all over the world. In fact, the only major area of the world in which Dr. Whitcomb has not been is the continent of Antarctica! The truth of the Word of God was revealed to Dr. Whitcomb at the age of eighteen during his early years at Princeton University. A traveling missionary and graduate of Princeton had returned to teach a course on the Bible to anyone who was interested. After a few of his classes, the missionary was able to share personally with Dr. Whitcomb the saving grace of Jesus Christ and, as Dr. Whitcomb says, “I’ve never recovered!” Meeting the woman that was to become his bride Dr. Whitcomb was married in the year 1953. After seventeen years of marriage, Mrs. Whitcomb passed away leaving Dr. Whitcomb with four children to care for on his own. Upon remarrying to his wonderful wife Norma, he received two more children and for a time lived under a roof with six children under the age of seventeen! Dr. Whitcomb attests to the wonderful blessing of not ony his six children but the seventeen grandchildren God has given him as well. Authoring and co-authoring over ten books, charts, and video series leaves little room for spare time in the life of Dr. Whitcomb. Yet when he does have a few moments to relax we could easily find him either going for a swim or playing with his dog ,Tabbie, whom Dr. Whitcomb assures us, smiles at him when they play. With 2 Timothy 2:1-3 inspiring him to teach and entrust the Word to reliable men, his hope is that each of his listeners would not pass time idly but would go on to teach others that which they have learned. As the staff and students ofWord of Life Bible Institute, we are truly grateful for such a sound man of the Word, for his dedication to its teachings, and the godly example of a life being lived u...on the victory side.”

Amy Ketchum and Brian Newby goof off in England Classroom during a party for their bro and sis dorms.

Life On The Go

What do WOLBI students do for fun when they are not spending enjoyable time reading books about theology? Many choose to get off campus in some way, others to find a quiet place to sit and talk with their uWOLBI Friend.” On campus favorites include Jack’s Snack Shack where the coffee is always hot and the snack shack girls always nice, the Annex where it is very easy to sit and chat alone or play UNO with 12 others, and the gym where one can always find a spare basketball to shoot some hoops and show off their skills. When the desire is to get off campus for a few hours, Glens Falls, Albany, Downtown Saratoga, and Schroon Lake are the campus favorites. No matter where one goes they can always find things to do and places to go. Wal-mart has always been the favorite of staff and students; one will normally see about 20 people from WOLBI on the typical Wal-mart run. In short, when you get tired of sitting in your room reading, get out and about with food, fun, and fellowship...it promises to be fantastic.

This Is The Life

What do Florida Bible Institute Students do for lun? Well, the beach is always an option! What could be more lun then spending a day at Clearwater Beach and soaking up some sun while you witness to some other teens you may meet walking down the surf. The only thing students require from their favorite hangouts is that the place must have a high capacity for both fun and quite a few people. No one likes to go out by themselves, so when WOLBI Florida students head to The Beanery' or Starbucks you can count on a large group walking through the door. Since Hudson is a relatively small town students must find fun wherever possible. Bowling and bookstores are popular hangouts simply because they enable the students to enjoy themsleves with much creativity. All in all any corner you turn in Wal-mart you are sure to find a WOLBI student shopping or trying on silly costumes. It’s all about taking the time to sit back, relax, and spend quality time with bosom buddies from everyone’s favorite Bible Institute.

Birmingham. Alabama Saved only by the grace ofGod is the theme ofevery Bible Institute student’stestimony;some have reached die deeper level of intimacy with their Saviorthat the rest ofthe students respectto an incredible degree. Josh Cannon is one such case and he is increasing his love for God while enrolled in the second year program. Josh was raised in Birmingham, Alabama, and has the southern accent to prove it. Although he was raised in a Christian home and attended a good church for his whole life, he chose not to internalize the Gospel until the age of 19. Since then he has been growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ and is now living an abundant life in Christ. Josh has the desire to be a student of God's Word, become a pastor in order to lead his congregation and fill their needs, and to get married and lead his family towards God. Josh has been learning so much truth in his two years at the Bible Institute. He loves being able to open up the Word of God and know how to study and where to turn in time of need. He also feels very blessed by the friendships God has supplied him with; secondary to the Word of God, good godly fellowship matters so much. He hasreally learned to lean on God for all ofhis needs and God has in turn blessed him exceedingly abundantly above all he could ask or think. His favorite pastimes are reading God's Word and investing his time in people's lives. He knows that by focusing on what truly matters in life he will be “living on the victory side.”

Charlotte, North Carolina Though most of us at Word of Life can attest to the amazing vocal abilities of this young lady, our students and staff make up one of smallest groups she has ever sung in front of!! As the official vocalist of the national Anthem for the Elizabeth Dole Senatorial Campaign, Ms. Christina Arrington has traveled her home state of North Carolina blessing thousands through her powerful voice! Completing the first year course at the Bible Institute, Christina can attest to the victorious provision of Christ in her life. Growing up in North Carolina, Christina was saved at the age of five along with her older brother Jeffrey. With two older brothers and two younger sisters, Christina and her brother were the first to put their trust in Christ. As it wasn’t until seven years later that the rest of her siblings came to know Christ personally, Christina realized the beautiful blessing she’d received in being able to attend church together with her entire family. Though her elementary and high school years brought a number of trying circumstances and tough decisions, Christina rededicated her life to Christ in the summer of her Junior Year. During her Senior Year, God moved mightily in her life. It was then that Christina truly began to appreciate the prayers of her parents and the encouragement of fellow believers! Adding to the excitement of her senior year was the offer to sing in Elizabeth Dole’s campaign, an opportunity she was honored to take hold of and one through which her joy for Christ was undoubtedly displayed. Along with the many other things in which she finds enjoyment, such as writing poetry, playing the piano, and writing music, Christina has truly enjoyed growing in the Lord during her first year at Word of Life. With plans to attend Philadelphia Bible University, Christina desires both to pursue a degree in counseling and to use her gifts of writing and song in an effective way for the Lord. In striving to live for Christ and glorify Him in her daily walk, she poses both to herself and to her fellow students a simple question: Is what you are doing making your life better for Elim? What an honor to know that we have Christina with us “...on the victory side.”

Rome, Geor

A family who serves God is influential in developing young lives and teaching then to follow Christ; Elysia Fowlkes was raised in such a family. Elysiais from Rome, Georgia, with her family consisting of her father, mother, two brothers and a sister. Her dad has been a preacher and her mom has served alongside him for as long as she can remember. Elysia accepted Christ as her Savior when she was seven years old after family devotions. Recently she has been shown God's faithfulness in awesome ways. Before she came to the Bible Institute she did not have any money to pay for the school bill. Two weeks before she left she found out that every penny was paid for by grants and friends of the family. Elysia continues to grow in the grace and the know ledge of her Lord and Savior. God has continued to work in her life during her stay at the Bible Institute by answering her prayers and stretching her faith. In the future Elysia would like to work with teenagers and kids; it is her heart's desire to show them Jesus. Elysia claims Luke 14:1 -4 as her favorite verse because it reminds her how much God loves her. She knows that while she is here on earth serving Him, He is in heaven preparing a place for her! She looks to her future home in heaven with her Father as she is every day “living on the victory side.”

Since then, diey have served as a family in various capacities, with Wiktoria teaching Sunday school for the 3-5 year olds and her parents involving themselves in the Marriage Counseling Ministry. Though her hobbies include basketball, photography, and putting her beautiful voice to use in song, Wiktoria also enjoys working as a counselor atWord of Life summer camps in Poland.Though she had thought about attending college in Poland, she knew she had enjoyed her experience as a counselor with Word of Life and was urged by her Pastor to check out the Bible Institute. Both excited and nervous to come to the States,Wiktoria is so glad die Lord led her to attend the BI this year. Semmes, Alabama

With her home in Semmes, Alabama, this southern Belle made the trek from the beaches of ‘Bama to the snowy mountains of NewYork. Spending her second year atWOLBI, NY, Amy Ketchum can testify to God using seemingly small struggles, even that of the weather, to grow' character in the lives of His children. Growing up in a Christian home, Amy was saved at an early age during a Junior church service at her home church.Though she had said the sinners prayer and was attending a Christian school, it wasn’t until she was twelve years old that the Lord really got a hold of Amy’s heart, it was then that she wholeheartedly dedicated her life to the Lord. Though by today’s standards it is assumed tiiat every student go straight from high school graduation to receive a college education, this was not Amy’s desire. Instead, she knew7clearlywhat she wanted to do: get married and become a stay at home mom! Yet these plans began to change in May of her Senior year when her pastor took her youth group to a week of camp atWOLBI, FL. Even though her knowledge of the school was minimal after being there only one week, Amy knew7that WOLBI, FL, was where God wanted her to be. The summer following the completion of her first year, Amy and a friend decided to head to the BI in New York on a road trip. Though the idea of attending the second year program in New7York had crossed Amy’s mind, it was quickly ruled out by the rumors of snow storms.Yet, just a few weeks later, God made clear to Amy that WOLBI, NY, was indeed the place for her. In coming to the BI, God has taught Amy so much. She has learned the importance of contentment, not only w7ith the below zero weather and snowy treks to council hall, but in all areas of her life. Relying on Proverbs 3:5-6, she has learned that trusting God with 99% of life simply isn’t enough... it must be all or nothing. And thankfully, contrary to the experiences of others, Amy has yet to learn what if feels like to have her nose hairs freeze! Truly, this southern belle has learned of the many trials and blessings that arrive on the road as we travel .. on the victory side! ”

Henderson, Nebraska Growing up in a family of four children, and raised by Godly missionary parents, Luke Enns had the awesome opportunity to trust Christ at an early age. Born in Henderson, Nebraska, and raised in Canada, Luke's family was involved in church and a summer camp every year. Now back in Nebraska, the Enns' are furthering their ministry with Grace Missions. Having to depend on God to provide for his needs has helped Luke grow in his faith in God. He is so thankful for friends like Dr. Scheide and Mr. Ingersoll, who are "priceless to his personal understanding of the W ord." These godly men in his life have always been "only a table or a phone call away, with a ready-to-talk attitude." Lord willing, following his year at the Florida Bible Institute, Luke will be attending Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina. His favorite quote, which mirrors the message of the life ofJack Wyrtzen is this: “The future is bright for us in these years that will thus follow, we hold these truths to be godly and upright, bringers of Good News to all people, no matter color, race, or religion, our message is clear, our doctrine is sound, our ways are just, and we fear not because we are living on the victory side!”

Serving Christ through leading others At some schools students may just be another grade in a book, another face in the crowd, or another name on roll call; not so with Word of Life Bible Institute. The administration and other staff take time to get to know students on a more personal level. Their goal is to pour into the student’s lives what God pours into theirs. Students feel free to step into the staff offices at any time, many times this simply means over lunch in the dining hall, at the tube hill, or after evening chapel. The staff is always willing to help students with anything and everything; that’s something you won’t find anywhere else.

Cffiwnerm. Jason Braaten, Dean of Men RD, takes time to point out the importance of paying attention to daily announcements.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania In His first year with Word of Life, Mr. John Cartwright has already advised the student body with numerous words of godly wisdom, as evidenced by the challenge above. In amazing ways, the Lord has worked to lead this man back to the Word of Life Bible Institute and into the position of Dean of Men. Growing up in a Christian home just outside of Philadelphia, Mr. Cartwright was saved at the age of four. His father pioneered the planting of a church in their hometown and served as a wonderful example of a godly man in his life. After graduating high school, Mr. Cartwright began his higher education here at Word of Life New York. Following his first year, he attended Liberty University in Lynchburg,VA, and went on to receive his Master ofArts in Religion and a Master of Divinity from Liberty’s Seminary. While attending Liberty, the Lord began tugging on his heart by giving him a great desire to teach. After six years of teaching at a small Christian school in Miami, he was called to continue his teaching, but to become more involved in the arena of ministry training. Alter much thought and prayer he and his wife were led to do so back in the good old Adirondack Mountains of New York! Mr. Cartwright says he’s excited to be a part of what he believes to be an extremely exciting period of growth and ministry here at Word ol Life Bible Institute.Though at some point in the future he would like to study for his doctorate, right now his greatest calling is to grow in the newest dimension of his life entitled fatherhood, as he learns what it means to build a godly home Our Dean ol Men leaves us with the verse that has played an important part in his own life, Philippians 3:10: ‘That I may know Him and the power ol His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformed to His death.”

Students leading students A leadership position on any level serves not only as a test of character and challenge of servanthood, but as an incredible opportunity to observe the hand of God. When a leader passionately strives to follow Christ’s example of servant leadership, the growth that takes place in both the life of those leading and those being led is undeniable. Through the RA and Internship programs, students are given the opportunity to lead, inspire and encourage their fellow students while developing their own personal responsibility and self-discipline. Being instructed by seasoned servant leaders, they are challenged to put to use the gifts and abilities God has blessed them with. By the end of the year, these experiences prove to be some of the most significant, life-changing and memorable opportunities of the entire year.

Sometimes the Lord works in mysterious ways. Upon coming to Word of Life, I had three previous years of experience in the culinary arts. I knew God was calling me into this field but I had J O no direction as to where. One day as I was searching the web, I realized Word of Life actually has a culinary program. After much prayer and council, I have clear direction that in the fall of 2004 I will attend the Inn Culinary Apprenticeship Program upon my acception .--Josh Mellinger Being an RA has been, by far, the best part of my year. It has been such an incredible experience, watching Philippians 1:6 at work in the lives of my sisters in Christ, and sometimes even having the privilege to be used in that process. It has definitely challenged me to be selfless and to love others as Iwould myself—but there’s nothing like standing back and watching the Lord do things that could not possibly be attributed to anyone else. Being an RA has taught me the all-sufficient power of theWord of God, the power of prayer, the importance of faith, and has given me a strong desire to always be involved in ministering to others and challenging them, as they challenge me, to have a deeper relationship with Christ.— Aubrey Taylor

Off Campus, International, and Inn Work Program

There are a few areas that enable students to attend WOLBI while getting a new twist at the same time. Off campus students, international students, and the students involved in the Inn Work Stay Program certainly have varied experiences. Students who are married or prefer to work in order to pay for schooling as they attend certainly have a different outlook on the WOLBI experience. The international students also have to take into consideration that their classes are not in their first language. However, the ministry opportunites in all of these areas are mazing. Students interact within the surrounding community as well as with the students who live on campus. The discipline factor is also greater as these students must learn to prioritize as they are not only juggling academia and ministry but lor most also work and sometimes a family. None of these students regret this year and many have grown in their personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ at a rate they never would have imagined.

Lend an arm , save a life

Our snowy New York campus received a new addition to it’s staff this winter: The WOLBI Ice Support. Assuming their roles as Mr. Nice and Mr. Right, Derrick Meisner and Danny Howard took to the ice this winter, lending an arm to any young lady in distress over the icy walking conditions. Saving the lives of many young ladies on the verge of sliding their way to a broken leg, our fearless Ice Support team promised, anywhere, “WOLBI There.”

What's in a name? Shout the name “JOHN!” across our vast Adirondack campus and at least six heads will turn your way. Scream “Hey Sarah!” down Europe Middle Dorm and you’ll get at least seven different responses. Ask for Dan in Hungary Dorm and you’ll have to choose which one! As one big family here on campus, all of us share with each other in many capacities. Yet some are even kind enough to share their very names!

Unity not uniformity Ultimately unified in our mindset, exceptionally distinct in our style. In observing a morning class or evening elective, one might believe the fashion sense on the WOLBI campus to be quite uniform. But hit the dining hall or simply take a walk around campus on a sunny spring day and you will discover the wide- ranging tastes of this diversified group. From hiking boots to high heels, cotton to corduroy, beach bum apparel to blizzard proof attire, we as students have come to appreciate the uniqueness with which our unified body is decorated. Although unity is crucial, uniformity is simply a non-essential for diose determined to live on the victory side.

Alter spending their first year in the warm Florida sum, Amy Ketchum and Stephanie Kona encountered a North-East climate crisis. It didn’t take long before these southern belles had learned the value of long sleeves and layers.

Flexibility is a key ingredient in both fashion and ministry at the Bible Institute. J Naoki Kagawa and Tony Carew’s snow campers enjoyed dressing their counselors in the ultimate ghetto attire.
