Sometimes the easiest way to find the right fit for something is through the process of elimination. This is especially true when searching for a contractor and team for your remodel. Identifying red flags early in the search process will make your life easier, and help you narrow the list of legitimate projects faster. Some key things to look out for when vetting contractors include: No design team/guidance on the design piece of your project Saying they can estimate a project that won’t start for 6+ months Contractor shows a lack of interest in you AND the rest of your family Lack of transparency around how each component of the remodel is handled No discussion of Return on Investment or financials By understanding the things you DON’T want from your contractor, you can set yourself up for success and eliminate them early in the search process. You need someone who understands the true motivations behind your remodel, and is determined to bring about the best possible solution for you, your family, your home, and your financial position in it.
