Being an intern in the bakery has been one of the more eye opening experiences I have ever had. I have learned quite a lot about the human experience end what leadership involves. Motivation was a key, both in my life and others. I had to stay motivated, and learn how to motivate others to work to their potential, it was very challenging to find some people’s drive. I learned more about delegation and using people where they are gifted. A lot of leadership is just paying attention to people. You have to be willing to listen and learn from them, as well as instruct them on a possible better way. Spiritually, the internship was a test. It is easy to let things go and to look at it as just a job, or to focus on the negative things and let attitudes develop. a The other thing that stands out is getting to work with the full time kitchen staff. These guys are the behind the scenes people, and yet they stand out more in my mind than the Deans or RDs.when it comes to student interaction. The office was constantly full of people getting counsel and advice. I got to learn a lot about the real reason we are here, and that is to serve others. Being behind the scenes exposes you to both sides. If you look at it from the vantage point of “what can I learn,’’ then you can take the good and learn from the bad. Overall, it was a great opportunity to learn. Plus, I got all the doughnuts I wanted! i Jacob Wilke
