Many of us, when thinking about college, would like to think that we may meet the one God has planned for us to spend the rest of our life with. But what of those who already have found that special someone that God has destined for them to be with until death? Most of us tend to overlook the married students here at Word of Life. I know that I did that very thing until my week of Open Air Evangelism in November. Peter and Bette Verkaik were on my team, and I had the wonderful opportunity of getting to know them in a much more personal way. I soon realized that they struggle with the same scholastic issues that we do. However, they have many other problems to deal with also. For instance, many of these married students have to provide for, not only their wives or husbands, but also their children if they have them. In the case of having children the students need to take care of putting their child (or children) through school, as well as dealing with the Bible Institute. Not only did I have the chance to go on O.A.E. with two married students, but, upon my return to the BI, I was seated beside Tim Perry. I discovered that Tim Perry was very much like most of my peers in that he also had the urge to talk during class, although not because of the RA. Speaking of RA's, the married students get demerits just like we do, although getting these demerits is a little harder since the staff doesn't check their homes each day! I also sat beside Roger McGary during the winter quarter. Mr. McGary involves himself at Lighthouse, a local church, by singing for Sunday services. Stephen Simons also enjoys music. This was evident when he joined Mr. Tom Taylor, and other students, in playing their harmonicas to "When We All Get to Heaven". Ralph Deshetsky Jr. also assisted guest lecturers by directing the student body in song, while his wife, Wendy, played beautifully on the piano. All of us can remember times that John Janho, Jr. gave the student body advice that we can hold on to for the rest of our lives. He knew how to relate to all of us because he has five children of his own. He also began a Bible Study for any young men that were interested in strengthening their relationship with God. I hope that many of you had the opportunity to see the example that these, and other, married students set. They were a great encouragement to those of us who took the time to get to know them. They struggled with things as we did, yet they could help us deal with some problems we did not know how to handle. Remember to keep them in your prayers. Vanya Yoder
