Word of Life Bible Institute Yearbook 1996

Winter Quarter STUDYING UNDER THE SON Second Year goes to Florida For the second year in a row, Second Year students arrived on the WOLBI campus greeted by a cold winter chill. It was time for another Missions Conference, and long treks through piled up snow. It felt great to be back at the dear old WOLBI campus, but this time they knew their stay would not be extended. Daydreams of a warm sun and palm trees filled their minds as they sat through their first week of Winter Quarter classes. Yes, at the end of the week, these privileged upperclassmen were going to journey to the other end of the East Coast to hibernate for the Winter. Little did they realize when they boarded the WOLBI vans early on Saturday morning that Winter would desperately try to follow them. A sudden snowstorm in the middle of the trip forced them to spend the night in a rest area. They thought they would never leave the snow behind, or reach their destination. God saw them through, however, and at the end of a long 48 hour drive, a train of vehicles finally arrived in Hudson. The warm air of Florida surrounded the students as they stepped out of the vans to stretch their weary muscles. They entered the '"Signature Room" where familiar faces such as Miss Newton and Carl Argila greeted them. Most were quite impressed with what they saw. This was not the typical brown, green, red, and blue cabin decor from up North! They were in a classy environment. However, WOLBI could not be WOLBI without camps and cabins. The students soon discovered that the classy half of the campus was for the guests, and their abode would be in the summer cabins. OK, OK, so maybe it wasn't much different than New York. There was still more in store. The quarter was filled with sunny, leisurely days as the Florida staff and the students grew closer together. Students sitting on the front porches strumming guitars, catching some rays, or studying in the jacuzzi were common sights. Weekends were filled with free concerts, ministry, and trips to the beach. Many of the classes were about Missions, and most of the students can still hear Dun Gordy's "Go Ye" ringing in their ears. OAE in Tampa and Orlando as well as Jalopy Raids are happy memories for the students as they saw God use them in others' lives. Papa John's pizza on Sunday Night followed by Family Time is a precious memory as we all shared what God was doing in our lives. Florida was definately the highlight for the 1996 Second Year class. It was sad to leave as they had grown close together. The end of the quarter arrived, however, and the students felt like Nomads as they once again packed up their belongings and prepared their hearts and minds for yet another move. They bid the friendly Floridians and the sun farewell and headed back to

the North Country. — Tricia Valentine
