Mactac Acquires Label Supply

ACTEGA Teams With Makro Labelling

Mactac, a LINTEC Company, is acquiring Label Supply, headquartered in Ontario, Canada. Label Supply has been servicing the Canadian roll label market for more than three decades. The acquisition is expected to close June 1, 2023, and consists of an established, turnkey facility with 11 finishing assets, a transportation/shipping fleet, laboratory and technical resource group, and an in- house ink partner. Expanding the operational and commercial capabilities of Label Supply, Mactac will invest in the facility’s resources, technology, and equipment, including adding high-volume slit- ting assets designed for larger material rolls. Collaboration Mactac will reportedly expand product offerings, adding LINTEC high-performance products and others, while ensuring supply stability. Mactac continues to invest and expand within the North American label market through recent as- set expansion and strategic business acquisitions, including Duramark Products (formally Ritrama USA), Spinnaker Coating, LLC, CSI – Southern Cali- fornia and now Label Supply.

ACTEGA, manufacturer of specialty coatings, inks, adhesives and sealing compounds for the print and packaging industry, has signed a collaborative agreement with Makro Labelling. The partnership aims to accelerate the develop- ment and supply of container application machines for Signite, a sustainable decoration technology. Last year, ACTEGA Signite was honored with The Label Industry Global Awards’ Award for In- novation. Supplier Collaboration In order for the benefits of Signite labels to be employed, modified applicator machines based on traditional pressure sensitive labelers are required. Low-speed applicators suitable for craft spirits, wines, craft beer and other similar markets have been developed and manufactured in-house by ACTEGA. Makro Labelling has agreed to collaborate on the design, manufacture and supply of low and medi- um-speed rotary style labeling machines with an initial focus on models that have application speeds in the 100-400 containers per minute range.

Recyclability Tool Launches For Fibre-Based Packaging Papercycle, a recyclability assessment and certifica- tion service for fibre-based packaging products and materials for the UK and beyond, has been launched. Developed by the Confederation of Paper Indus- tries (CPI) and supported by the UK’s paper-based industries, Papercycle’s automated online tool re- portedly provides a comprehensive system to as- sess the recyclability of fibre-based products and materials in a consistent and credible way. It also identifies whether fibre-based packaging materials can be recycled in the UK and which type of recycling mills can reprocess them. Recyclability can be tested at any stage, be it finished or semi-fin- ished products. Papercycle provides an instant diagnosis on re- cyclability following the online assessment, but for more complex products or materials, Papercycle can conduct laboratory testing under the Cepi recy- clability test method. Following a laboratory test, Papercycle can provide a technical review service on how a product behaves under lab conditions to give an insight into how the various components interact with each other, diag- nose the most critical parts and signpost potential solutions for material modification. Papercycle can help prepare fibre-based packaging for certification and expansion in the UK and other markets, subject to local variations and requirements.
