And we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdon, that we may present every man complete in Christ. Andfor this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works

within me. Colossians 1:28, 29

Every year at the Bible Institute, a clay off making the final result a beautiful theme or a challenge is given to the stu- vessel. dent body. This year the theme was Our master Potter starts by pounding '■‘Becoming Complete in Christ.” Colos- out the bumps of our old nature. He then sians 2:10 says, “and in Him you have places us in the center of His hands to been made complete...” For us to be made begin molding us. We may feel like we’re complete in Him, He must mold us and spinning in circles at times but we can be shape us much like a potter does with assured that He is holding us steadily and clay. A potter-starts out by pounding the won’t let us go out of control. He uses His lump of clay on a table into a moldable fingertips to give form to our lives. The shape. Then, putting the lump of clay in tool He uses to make us beautiful is the the very center of his wheel, he starts Word of God. We are not going to be spinning it and positions his hands in a completely finished until we are with Him controlled manner, with no sudden in His presence but if we are willing, He changes, to begin the shaping process. He will mold us and shape us to become uses his fingertips to give the clay form beautiful pieces of pottery more complete and various other tools to cut, smooth, in Him for His glory! -Becky Weeks scrape, give texture, and to cut any excess

church ministry, thus began the Local Church Evange lism that celebrated 25 years of ministry this year. His is a ministry of old-fashioned Bible preaching declaring that all are sinners and only Christ can save. Lor the past 20 years, Wendell Calder has started out the year at the Word of Life Bible Institute. The students usually come in not knowing what to expect and end up going on a “jolly” ride. No matter what he was teaching he always lived it out with his life. He practiced what he preached. While going through the book of Philippians, he shared how even though he was getting ready to have surgery he found joy in the circumstances and even ended up using his bed as a trampoline. Through his wisdom, trials, and blessings, he has been able to encourage many students and staff. In his years of ministry to follow, he will continue to impact many lives. -Joanna Morton

At the beginning of every quarter, as the students get back from break, classes start with a reminder that with God’s grace we can do anything. Dr. Wendell Calder was born on Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada and at a young age he was born again at North Road Baptist Church in Campobello. Knowing that he could do anything with God’s grace, the Sunday after he graduated from New Brunswick Bible Institute he began his pastoral ministry. He served as a pastor for 16 years and during that time he also founded the Woodland Baptist Church in Woodland, Maine. Even with his busy schedule he held a 30 minute radio ministry every week. In 1970, he founded the Living Waters Bible Conference for adults and youth which still continues to grow and be blessed of the Lord today. Dr. Calder felt that the Lord had called him to local

“Wendell Calder is a perfect ex ample of ‘practice what you preach.’ He is a man of God in soul, heart and action. He also lives one day at a time, but also as if there is no tomorrow. He truly is a man modeled by God for His work. I can clearly say he is an excellent role model!” | — Paul Patterson “He gives great challenges with I much information to think about. |i You have to decide what to do j with it.” — Katie Westcomb “He has a way of telling his unfor- tunate experiences in a wonderful | way. He’s anawesome man.” — Stephanie Clark “I love that guy! We scheduled V our trips to Word of Life around ! the times he was going to be here ; to speak!” ; — Bob DeVoe ; “He lives out what he teaches in I Philippians by showing joy in tri als (ie., jumping on his bed before [ operation time)!” <1 — Naomi Cross | “ He relates to us because he’s still |! a kid himself!” 1 — Courtney Bingman . ■■

“Over the years, (Uncle) Dr. Wen dell Calder has been a huge en couragement to me and has play ed a big part in my life! He, and his wife, definitely walk the walk and talk the talk, and you couldn’t find a sweeter couple if you tried! They are consistent all the time, and their walk with God has been a tremendous example to me! Not only is he the best preacher I have ever heard, but they are also two of my ‘Best’ friends! I thank the Lord for them and their whole family and the impact they have made in my life! Thank you!" — BJ Speer “Uncle Wendell has had a great impact on my life. I have sat through innumerable sermons ev er since I can remember. Uncle Wendell has not only impacted me directly, but indirectly as well. It was at his summer camp in Danforth, Maine, where, at the age of seven, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. Then five years later I dedicated my life to His work during a campfire ser vice at the same camp. I can’t quite express the gratitude I have for his godly example and godly impact in my life. Thank you (Uncle) Wendell Calder.” — Chris Snell

F ounders and Directors “Being Molded To Be More Complete In Christ"

All it takes is a willing heart and submission to the Word of God. That is what the founders and direc tors of Word of Life Fellowship have. God has molded and shaped all of these men into very usable pieces of pottery to be used for His glory. He used them in the founding and directing of an amazing ministry that has been a tool to bring many to a saving knowledge of Christ over the years. Just as their outward appearances have changed over the years, so have their hearts as God has molded and shaped them making them to be more complete in Christ. They have all played a vital role in the

ministry of Word of Life from founding it to di recting it. Numerous ministries have begun under the direction of these men. Some of them include the Bible Institute in New York and Florida, the Island, the Ranch, the Inn, the Family Campground, various oversees ministries, and many more. Sal vation and discipleship of many around the world is what these leaders had in mind when starting these ministries, and they have been faithful to carry through with their purposes. They are very much appreciated and are wonderful testimonies of being willing to yield to the Word of God. — Becky Weeks

Joe Jordan Executive Director

Much like a potter carefully molding a ump of clay into a finished work, God has een forming the life of Joe Jordan into omething beautiful. In 1961, Joe arrived as a camper on Word ofLife Island. One night, under the preaching of Jack Wyrtzen, Joe surrendered his life to the Lord, and at that moment, God began the process of making him complete. The decision Joe made that night was just the beginning. God now had to take him through the slow process of shaping and refining him through years of study in the Word. After graduating from Tennessee Temple University with a BA in Bible and Theology, Joe came on staffas a Word ofLife missionary. At that point, God called hi and his wife to Argentina, where they spent

twenty years serving. During that time, Joe was able to see the ministry grow rapidly. Today there is a Bible Institute with over 560 students, two Word ofLife camps, and many clubs scattered throughout the a nation! God was blessing there, and yet, He still was not done molding Joe. In 1990, Joe came back to the States and was given the office of Senior Vice-President of Ministries. Five years later he became the Director of Word ofLife Fellowship Interna tional. Last year, the torch was passed from George Theis toJoe Jordan, as Joe took over as Executive Director of the worldwide Word of Life ministries and President of the Bible Institute. In addition to this, Joe has been a guest lecturer in New York and Florida for the past several years. Truly, the Potter has turned a lump of clay into a treasured vessel. -Christine Ber wick ^ Pp* I,. a

‘“For I know the plans I that havefor you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans. .to give you afuture and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

The class of 2000 arrived at Word of Life apprehensive ibout the future. For many, it was their first time away rom home. Questions swirled through their minds: What dnd of roommates will I have? Will the classes be hard? What am I here for? What am I going to do with my life? it’s wonderful to know that, in the midst of all our worries, God knows what He is doing. The Master Potter, He brought each student here to begin, or continue, the

shaping process in their lives. Ministries, classes, work- assignments, and time spent with friends were all includ ed in His design. Through them He was smoothing out the rough spots and beginning to form them into vessels Fit for His service. For the rest of their lives, the students of the First year class will show evidence of the work God has done in them this year: the gentle fingerprints of the Savior upon their hearts. — Christine Berwick

Valentine's Banquet February 14 was right around the corner. The kitchen was working hard to get everything ready for the annual Valentine’s Banquet. Girls were trying on dresses to make sure they still Fit (and that they were approved) and the guys had already ordered their flowers and picked them up. A few of the students even had a “special guest” from back home come. . .but when Monday came around the roads were icy, schools close by were canceled. . .and so was the long awaited Banquet. Even though it was a day late the excitement was still in the air, after classes and a few hours to get ready Tuesday afternoon, everyone started heading for the Inn. Once everyone got to there everything was great. After the meal and dessert everyone went back to the

Auditorium where Ric Garland challenged the students and staff to go for that which is excellent and not settle for anything less than that. After the meeting some of the students stayed at the Inn to play various games, pool or swim; while the rest of the students returned to the Bible Institute where the Dime Carnival and Coffee House was going on. It was a beautiful night that many will remember for days to come, whether they went accompanied by that special someone or whether it was just a group of close friends. But most of all that night we were reminded that no matter how much we may love those around us there is someone who loves us more than we will ever be able to imagine and His name is Jesus! — Joanna Morton

The R.A.’s fill a very important role at the Word of fe Bible Institute. They not only help out with rule forcement but they also play an important part in the iristian discipleship process. They were taught in the A. elective how to provide biblical counseling, advice, couragement, and much more. The joys of being an A. include staying up after lights out when someone eds to talk, handing out those little white blessings,

Apocalypse “The Apocalypse? No, I don’t think there’s going to be an Apocalypse. I mean, if there is one, there’s nothing really I can do about it.” “I saw the movie, Apocalypse Now.. .something about the ending of the world or something.” Such is the world in which we live and minister. It is not an easy task to reach people with a message that is not taken seriously, as if Revelation is merely a mythological allegory. But the team of Apocalypse and After is deter mined to impact each audience member. Whether it be for a salvation or dedication decision, one cannot leave a performance unaffected. With a cast and crew that totals about 50, the group

functions like a family and is constantly learning more about the sovereignty of the Heavenly Father. The story, centered around the rapture and tribulation, follows Nathan as he deals with the “disappearance” of his wife. Nathan comes face to face with the Antichrist and is forced to see the consequences of his unbelief in Jesus Christ as his Savior from sin. For the non-believer, the end of the story is condemning, yet the children of God rejoice. They know that Jesus is Lord of all, and that they are co-heirs with Christ! Praise the Lord for such a ministry as this, and for the great and marvelous things He has done in and through those involved. — Alicia Horkey

Snow Camp, one the most exciting events of the year. As the first week approached many were getting worried that this first weekend of Snow Camp was going to be a snowless one. For the first time this year Word of Life used a snow maker (to make snow). But by the third weekend there was over 17 inches of snow! Students were able to use the talents they had and develope new skills. The Saturday Seminar was “Integrity,” the thought of what to do when no one is watching. The Word of Life students worked as coun selors and had to prepare a 20 - 25 minute Sunday School lesson on Judges 7:1-8, the incredible story of how God

used Gideon to defeat an entire Midianite army with only 300 men, because he had great faith. The Main Event followed the opening rally and many outdoor games were played. Following the Main Event was the guys and girls Volleyball tournament. During the weekend evenings and afternoons, many activities went on, such as the Ice Chute, Tube Hill, Human Bobsled, Climbing Wall, and many others! After the weekend was over the campers were given a survey, and one of their favorite parts of the weekend was their Counselor! Every weekend, many de cisions and dedications were made for Christ and that was the most exciting part of snow camp. — BJ Speer

“Then the Lord said to Gideon, “By the three hundred men who lapped, I will save you. and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, every man to his place.” Judges 7:8

Men’s Bask It’s amazing how a little round ball can be used by God as an awesome avenue to open doors for ministry oppor tunities. While being both physically and spiritually chal lenged, these young Word of Life Bible Institute men have proven themselves successful both on and off the court. They were a competitive team while at the same time maintained their composure and Christ-like atti tude. God gave the team many chances to share tes timonies and the gospel with players and fans alike. Some

came to know Christ through this exciting ministry, and many seeds were planted and entrusted to God for the harvest. Much of the team’s fellowship and encourage ment has occurred in the van while traveling, making their unity stronger for Christ's holy name. All honor and glory be to our Lord Jesus Christ for allowing these athletes to be used by Him and for Him while enjoying the wonderful sport of basketball. — April Besse and Chie Tanaka

Women’s Basketbafc The women's basketball team was an exciting ministry for thirteen young women who used their God given talents for the furtherance of the gospel. These ladies competed against local highschools and colleges. The aim of the team was not about scoring points, but about winning souls for Christ. Just as a city upon a hill cannot be hid, these girls were aware that their Christ-like at titude was a light to the darkness of lost souls around

them. The strength of their ministry was found in striving together for their common goals, leaning on one another when one becomes weak, and using the Christian's most powerful tool, prayer. They found themselves coming together between classes to praise their Saviour and ask Him to continue giving them the courage to be good Christian soliders and a bright light for others to see. — April Besse and Chie Tanaka

C hilaren’s Bible Feuowshi Children’s Bible Fellowship is an organization with two camps, Camp Joy and Camp Hope, located about an hour outside of New York City. This year four groups from the Word of Life Bible Institute made the journey to Camp Joy to be used of God in the lives of not only children but people of all ages! Different ministry opportunities included cleaning, repairing, and painting Camp Joy, open air evangelism, door-to-door evange lism, visiting kids at their homes as follow up, weekend

retreats for kids and giving bagged lunches or clothes to the homeless. The teams were all introduced to the city on one of the First nights through the infamous “Exposure Trips” where some stops were made at the F.A.O. Schwartz toy store, China Town, the Staten Island Ferry and other places. The weeks were filled with ministry and the end result was changed lives and hearts, rescued souls and spiritual growth in the lives of the team members! — Becky Weeks
