Local Cfiurch The students involved in this ministry became active participants in a church body, spending al most every weekend of the school year working with a local church. A variety of service opportunities were available, from teaching a Sunday-school class to working with a youth group, to participating in the worship services. Since many of the students stayed more than one day, the different families in the church opened up their homes for them to spend
the night. In this way, the students got to know the members of their church personally. Friendships developed as the students spent time weekly with the people there. The Local Church ministry al lowed students to use their spiritual gifts to serve the body of Christ, and equipped them for future lead ership roles in their own home churches. — Christine Berwick
