They came, many of them, to hear Jesus for themselves. Many of them listened carefully and opened their hearts to Jesus and took the gift of life that He offered to them. How grateful they must have been to the woman who took the time to go and get them so that they might hear the news for themselves! All over the world today there are people who have left their homes to go to tell others about Jesus. They want to share the wonderful news with those who have never heard. We ,call these people “missionaries,” but we might very twell call -them “Good News Bearers'.” Many of us have met Jesus and we have taken the gift He offered to us; now each day we can take the “Good News” to others.

art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. 15 The man departed, and told the Jew« that it was Jesns, which had made him whole. 16 And therefore did the Jews perse cute, Jesus, and sought to slay him, be cause he had done these things on the sabbath day. 17 But Jesus answered them, M> Father worketh hitherto, and I work. LESSON TEXT: John 5:2-17. GOLDEN TEXT: “W ilt thou be made whole?” (John 5:6). DEVOTIONAL READING: Psa. 116:1-8. Outline 'and Exposition I. T he H ouse of M ercy (2-4) S HE PRESENCE of pain and dis Jerusalem, or even Bethany, He went to Bethesda, meaning “the house of mercy,” there to show mercy. The impotent ones at the pool were waiting for the moving of the water, and their condition was sad indeed. But the sadness of their case is not worse than that of hundreds of spirit ually impotent folk, who are every where, “waiting” for the moving of the water of life by the Holy Spirit. II. T he O bject of M ercy (5-9) This man had had hfs infirmity for thirty-eight years, and to. ask him, “Wilt thou be made whole?” would seem to mock his helplessness. But by putting emphasis on each one of these words, we are enabled to see the need for the question, as it relates to this man as well as to every person who would receive help from the Lord

John 5:2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which 1» called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. 3 In these lav a great multitude of impotent folk, oi blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. 4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. 5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that lie had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, W ilt thou be made whole? 7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. 8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. 9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same -day was the sabbath. 10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: It is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed. 11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk. 12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk? 13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus'had conveyed him self away, a multitude being in that place. 14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou

OBJECTS: A pair of colored glasses and a pair of binoculars. (If possible use colored glasses with green lenses. Green cellophane can be l i g h t l y pasted over the lenses. If binoculars are not available, use clear glasses.) LESSON: What is the matter with you this morning? Every one and everything looks green. But when I remove the colored glasses, I see that you are not green. How would you like to look through these binoculars? I not only see the colors as they really are, but I can see much farther and more clearly with them than with the green glasses. This teaches me that there are two ways of seeing. The Lord Jesus re minded us of this, truth when He said, “Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? be hold, I say unto you. Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest” (John 4:35). He had in mind' people, and not a field of grain. The disciples thought it would be a long time before souls were ready to be saved; that they were like the green fields. Jesus saw the' people as grain which must be harvested at once or be lost. These glasses and binoculars teach us that there are two ways of seeing and two ways of saying. Christ sees people as they are and says that their souls are ready to be harvested. If we are wise we will ask the Lord Jesus to show us people as they are and to help us work in His great harvest field.
