coming toward him. He didn’t know that it was Jesus, but he saw the kind look on Jesus’ face and the people that gathered around Him. Jesus came over near the man and asked whether, he wanted to be well again. What do you think the man said? Can’t you imagine how his heart must have jumped at the thought? Jesus put out His hand and said, “Rise, take up thy bed, and walk,” and the man did arise, take Up his bed, and walk. The story in the Bible doesn’t tell us w h e t h e r he even stopped to th’ank Jesus. Do we re- rqember to thank Him? Jesus has given us homes, mothers, fathers, churches, and best of all, His wonder ful love. Let us bow our heads right now and take time to thank Jesus for just one of these good gifts. Tonight when we go to bed, let us thank Him for all of His good gifts to us. Object Lesson A H e l p l e s s H e a r t H e a l e d OBJECTS: A large paper heart and a cardboard cross colored red. (Turn the heart upside down and near the point print boldly with a crayon an “M,” near the middle an “H,” and a “W” near the notch of the heart. In smaller and less distinct letters, using the above, complete the following words, “Man’s Heart Wicked.” Turn the heart right side up and you will still have “M,” “H” and “W.” Using these letters, cpmplete the following words, “Man’s Heart Whole,” with let ters less distinct. Begin the lesson with heart upside down and with plain side toward the audience.) LESSON: What is the matter with this heart? “It is upside down.” Yes it is, but that is not all that is wrong with it, as we shall see when we turn it around. We now read, “Man’s Heart Wicked.” All unsaved people have heart trouble. God says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jer. 17:9). This heart reminds me of the man whom the Lord Jesus found near the pool of Bethesda. To him Jesus said, “Wilt thou be made whole?” (John 5:6). As I place this heart near the red cross, we see what happened to the poor man. The heart no longer can remain upside down. It is changed, and we read, “Man’s Heart Whole.”

A missionary tells this story: An Arab woman had been won to Christ from Mohammedanism. H e r family coaxed, argued, and threatened, to draw her from her new faith, but in -vain. Then they concocted a simple, deadly poison, and put it into her food secretly. When she had eaten the meat containing the poison, she knew vqpy quickly what had hap pened, and knew how deadly it was. She knew she was doomed to death. The poison would first make her very irritable, then very dull; then affect the mind still more, and then the body, till death should come. She was greatly startled and dis tressed, and did not know what to do. As she sat, without planning to, she began to repeat the Name, the great Name. Not aloud but to herself she repeated with great intensity, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.” For two or three days she continued, and the poison grad ually receded from her blood, and the family watched w i t h strange eyes. The poison had never failed before. She told the missionary, “I felt as though each time I said that Name there was like a wave of life, and in between like a wave of death.” But the death was becoming less and the life more, till to their utter astonish ment and her great joy she was free. ing with our friends! Can you imagine how weary it would be to be sick and not able to walk for thirty-eight long yeari? There was once such a man; he lay with many other sick people by the Sheep Gate in the city of Jeru salem. Some of the people believed that at certain times the pool near the gate had power to cure the sick, but the man had no one to help him to the pool. Then one wonderful day the man looked up and saw the Lord Jesus
