3. "He distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down" (v, 11). Evidently the miracle of created bread took place in the act of breaking and distribu ting to the disciples. To begin with, there was but one small loaf and less than half a fish for every thousand men! Yet after the miracle was accom plished, the fragments alone were probably fifty times greater than the original supply. The greatness and significance of this miracle may be seen in the fact that it is the only miracle of Christ recorded in all four Gospels. Christ only can supply the Bread of Life! He is the Bread. But He is depending upon His followers to share this Bread, dispensing it to a hungry world. 4. "When they were filled" (v. 12). This is a strong evidence of the-real ity of the miracle. It would have been impossible to convince five thousand hungry men that they were full when they were not. It is much harder to believe the modern “explanations” of this miracle than the miracle itself. 5. "Bread of God" (v. 33). In Pales tine and adjacent countries, whole wheat bread is about all many people eat. It is truly the staff of life. They may add a little goat’s cheese or milk, but the bread, provides their main nourishment. For the soul of man, the sufficient nourishment for spiritual life and growth is Christ, the Bread of God. Golden Text Illustration J ohn 6:35 Mr. Cunningham, a missionary of the Christian and Missionary Alliance who was serving in South China, told of a native who once came to him and said, “Why don’t you preach some thing else? You have been preaching this Jesus for three days.” “What do you eat for breakfast?” “For supper?” “Why, rice.” . “What did you eat yesterday?” “Rice.” “What have you been eating for years?” the missionary inquired. “Rice,” replied the astonished man. “Why do you eat rice every day? Why don’t you eat something else?” “Because it keeps me alive.” “That is just the reason that we preach Jesus, because He is life to us, and we could not live without Him,” explaining the missionary. —The Christian Herald. A Boy's Lunch J ohn 6:1-14 MEMORY VERSE: “ Give alms of such things as ye have” (Lk. 11:41). the Chinese was asked. “Rice,” was the reply. “For dinner?” “Rice.”

he that believeth on me shall never thirst” (v. 35; cf. vs. 53, 54). That "bread of life” is sent from God to the world, for the world, and whoever partakes thereof finds real life, etysrnal life, and satisfying life. Hence, Christians are not fed, spirit ually, through ordinances, or religious services, or even doctrines however true and correct, but through the Per son of the Lord Jesus Christ', who is the Bread of life. The formal professed believer may attempt to feed upon ideals from man, the backslider may vainly try to satisfy himself with swine’s husks of mere profession, but the. satisfied and happy Christian par takes of Him who is, in His own Per son, the Bread of life come down from heaven. Points and Problems 1. "One of his disciples, Andrew" (John 6:8). Andrew was not as illus trious in the service of the Lord as was John or Paul, but he was no fig urehead. He has the distinction of be ing the first one to follow Jesus as Messiah. His name denotes manliness and he made good his name. In Eng lish his name would be Mr. Manly. Three things are outstanding in this man’s ministry: (1) He brought his brother, Peter, to f Christ. : This was probably the biggest day’s work he ever did. Peter preached the great sermons and wrote the great books, but Andrew won him to Christ. (2) He discovered the hidden resources of a little boy. By means of these resources dedicated to Him, our Lord fed the multitude and preached the great ser mon on the Bread of Life. (3) Andrew and Philip told Jesus about the Greeks (John 12:22). Thank God for the Andrews! 2. "There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes; but what are they among so many?" (v. 9). Many believers excuse themselves from Christian service by saying they have no talent, liftle ex perience, small resources, and inabil ity to approach people. Thus they let what little they have go to waste. Five loaves and two fishes were not much to feed thousands. But dedicated to Christ they were more than enough. Little is much if in the hands of Christ.
