^ Phongl'i an 11:30pm curfew restrains students from staying up all night as Simon Peter did, there are times when, try as we might, we catch nothing! While scantrons can make it easier, studying the truth of God's word and its ap plication to us demands a fully yielded mind and spirit. Truly we need the Master fisherman's direction when it comes to understanding things that need spiritual discernment. Throughout the year, students have outlined and read the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, expanding their net one knot at a time. Theology gives students a broader understanding of who God is and how that has affected all of history. Weekly classes in Old and New Testament Survey give a closer examination of a particular book. Then they learn to develop the discipline of consistent studying from 6:30pm to 9:30pm with required nightly study hours, something many have never experienced. During the day at Word of Life a student is teaching their hearts and minds to listen and learn from 8:00am to 1:00pm. The purpose of study hours and classes is not to learn so that one thinks they have all the answers, but to let the “word of Christ richly dwell within” as Colossians 3:15 says. For now, being a student is our ‘great work’ (Neh. 6:3). This time is for us to learn more of God every morning and each night. We must set our hearts to study and to practice the law of the Lord as Ezra did (7:10) so that we can teach others. This prepares us to let down our nets as Simon did when we go on from here.
