S Some of us have known for years and others of us little imagined that we would be at Word of Life Bible Institute a year ago. But, either way, here we are. The Luke 5 story seems to describe our situation in the NY campus at WOL- BI: so many fish (students) came in that the boat (WOLBI campus) could scarcely hold them! Knowing that God is in control of everything, howev er, means believing that He indeed guided us here. It also means every thing that happens this year is part of His plan, right down to our roomates and job assignments. And Luke 5 also tells us that sometimes Jesus guides us to launch out into the deep water (v.4). As Wendell Calder noted, our rela tionship to God is indicated by our relationships with others. The work that God does in us is not something that just occurs in the classroom. What we learn there is tested and applied in student life, revealing what we really know and believe about God. Eccle siastes 5:20 says he “will not often consider the years of his life, beause God keeps him occupied with the glad ness of his heart.’’ We have certainly been occupied here! Though stretched by a demanding schedule, it is for dis cipline and preparation. We have had so many good things to enjoy here: Christian friendships from all over the world, jogs by the lake, dorm devotions, snowball fights, excur sions to coffee shops, Wal-Mart, the mall, and of course the Family Deli. What a wonderful year! We get to put in action what we learn every day by applying God’s word to life, work, and relationships.
