newsroom@eap.on.ca HAWKESBURY | The Hawkesbury Central Food Bank 7 th annual La Guignolée Sco- tia set a record during the three-day food drive. Hawkesbur y and area residents donated $7,000 and Scotia Bank provided $5,000 for a total of $12,000 raised to support the less fortunate this y ear. Organized in partnership with Laurin In- dependent Grocers, the Guignolée will help the food bank prepare 300 food ha m pers this Christ m as. Food Bank General Manager René Baril lauded the generosit y of citizens, volunteers who filled grocer y bags and the food bank’s partners. Food Bank President Shirle y Cler- m ont sa y s, “We are trul y overwhel m ed b y the support, kindness and generosit y that we experienced during this y ear’s annual La Guignolée Scotia. The generous support we received will m ake a tre m endous difference in helping the food bank support our resi- dents through this difficult econo m ic pe- riod, however, it is one hurdle that we m ust overco m e.” The group is also in the m idst of its Adopt a Fa m il y ca m paign in support of fa m ilies during the festive season. For a $100 donation, a donor can ensure a fa m il y will receive a food basket. During the past y ear, the Hawkesbur y Central Food Bank has seen a disturbing trend developing in the Hawkesbur y region. There’s been a stead y growth of nearl y 15%

Although, the issue is a m plified during the festive season, the need continues all y ear-round. “The Hawkesbur y Food Bank needs co mm unit y partners. Individuals, govern- m ent or industr y are encouraged to co m e and join us in our ongoing struggle to support our citizens. Whether y ou donate food, cash or y our ti m e, we’d be forever grateful.”
