Boaz Man Arrested For Drugs
A Boaz man has been arrested for drug charges in Etowah County. Authorities reported that on October 12, 2022, the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit executed a Search Warrant at the residence of Christopher James Cofield, located at 2172 Buffington Road in Boaz. The Search Warrant followed an investigation that consisted of Drug Sales from the residence.
During the course of the investigation the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit recovered approximately 1 pound of Methamphetamine, a quantity of Marijuana, and a firearm. THEFT ARRESTS Two individuals have been arrested for theft related charges. According to Etowah County Sheriff Jonathon Horton, Gary Michael Pointer (42) of Gadsden has been arrested and charged with Burglary 3rd, Theft of Property (Firearms), Criminal Mischief, and Obstructing Government Operations. ))_ Additionally, Jennifer Lynn Pointer (38) of Gadsden has been arrested and charged with Burglary 3rd, Theft of Property (Firearms). Horton said that around September 2, 2022 a burglary occurred on Tarpley Dr. East in the North Gadsden area of Etowah County. Firearms, collectibles, and jewelry were taken. During the investigation the individuals charged became suspects in the case. A search warrant was obtained and executed at a home in the Coates Bend Community and stolen items were recovered along with illegal narcotics. CHILD PORN ARREST According to Etowah County Sheriff Jonathon Horton, three men have been arrested on Possession of Child Pornography. Etowah County, Leesburg, and Cedar Bluff, Rainbow City Investigators which are on the State of Alabama Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) performed a round up and search warrants of 3 different homes and suspects on September 22, 2022. Logan Lee Jolley, 25 of Gadsden was arrested and charged with 11 counts of Possession of Child pornography and Dissemination of obscene matter. Several devices were searched during the search warrant with only his phone being taken. Jolley admitted to receiving and sending child pornography. Jolley is being held on a $270,000 cash bond. Christopher Jay Dowdy, 55 of Gadsden was arrested and charged with 10 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. Several devices were taken from his residence with the possibility of child pornography. Dowdy is being held on a $200,000 cash bond. Bruce Alan Mize, 18 of Stevenson Al, was arrested and charged with 11 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. Mize admitted to downloading, sending, and selling child pornography on the internet. Mize is being held on a $220,000 property bond. Jolley, Dowdy, and Mize have the same bond conditions which consist of no internet, smart phones, no contact with anyone under 18 years old, and to be supervised by Etowah County Community Corrections once released. There may be more charges on all 3 suspects. (1) count of Unlawful Possession of Marijuana First, and One (1) count of Possession of a Pistol by a Violent Felon. The Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit, Etowah County Sheriff's Office, Gadsden Police Department, ALEA, the FBI North Alabama Criminal Enterprise Task Force, and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force participated in the case.

On October 5, 2022, Narcotics Agents with the DeKalb County Narcotics Unit, along with the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office, Henagar Police Department, Rainsville Police Department, ALEA Region F Task Force and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office conducted three search warrants which led to over 6 pounds of methamphetamine. According to DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden, Narcotics Agents and Henagar Police Officers went to a residence on Tinker Drive after receiving information about drug activity. During the search of the residence, approximately 5 pounds of methamphetamine was seized as well as Ecstasy and drug paraphernalia. Rory Bentley Shankles (age 62 of Henagar) was charged with Trafficking in Any Illegal Drug and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Brenda Annette Scott (age 54 of Henagar) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. In a separate investigation, Narcotics Agents, along with the Jackson County Narcotics Unit and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, went to a residence in Jackson County looking for a subject. Authorities received information that subject they were looking for in Jackson County was at a motel in Rainsville. As a result, DeKalb County Deputies and the Rainsville Police Department helped with the investigation. A search of the motel room was conducted and agents found and confiscated over 5 ounces of methamphetamine, controlled pills and drug paraphernalia. Anthony Glenn Hilley (age 59 of Pisgah) and Christy Nicole Jennings (age 37 of Ider) were charged with Trafficking in Any Illegal Drug, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance. “This is absolutely a huge win in our fight in the war against drugs that we battle every day. When you mention pounds and drugs together, that is definitely a big supplier in poisoning many people and our youth. I feel like today, we have cut the head off of a big snake that has been sinking its fangs in to our county," commented Sheriff Welden. During the month of September DeKalb County Authorities arrested several individuals on drug related charges. According to a press release from DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden, On Thursday, September 1, Narcotics Agents attempted to conduct a traffic stop in Mentone, near Tutwiler Gap. The driver refused to stop, initiating a short pursuit. Hayward Jess Barker (27 of Fort Payne) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd , Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Attempt to Elude. On Saturday, September 3, DeKalb County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on County Road 817. Deputies found that the driver had outstanding warrants through our Agency. Maya Panessa Geick (24 of Henagar) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and 1 warrant for Failure to Appear. In a separate incident on September 3, deputies responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle near a residence on Al Hwy 68 in Kilpatrick. During a search of the vehicle, suboxone strips and drug paraphernalia were found. Susan Lowery McClendon (62 of Albertville) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On Monday, September 5, the Henagar Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Liberty Road in Henagar. During the stop, it was found that the driver had active warrants with DeKalb County. Officers also found marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Serenity Faith Whiddon (28 of Flat Rock) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd, Resisting Arrest, Attempt to Elude Police and 2 warrants for Failure to Appear. On Wednesday, September 7 , DeKalb County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Al Hwy 168 and County Road 479 in the Kilpatrick area. Deputies found methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a firearm in the vehicle. Victor Cordoba (40 of Huntsville) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Pistol Concealed w/o permit. On Friday, September 9, DeKalb County Deputies, along with the Crossville Police Department went to a residence on Hwy 68 in Crossville after receiving several complaints of drug activity. During a search, methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in the residence. Danny Ray Peacock (50 of Crossville) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st , Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Additionally, Caleb Grayson Tann Carman (30 of Boaz) and Jeffrey Dewayne White (53 of Crossville) were charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On Saturday, September 10, the Valley Head Police Department, along with Mentone Police Department and DeKalb County Deputies, responded to the Dollar General on Hwy 117 and 4th Ave in Valley Head after receiving a call of a suspicious male. After locating the subject, he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, controlled pills and drug paraphernalia. James David Goodwin, (40 of Covington, GA) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x2), Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine 1st , Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Probation Violation and 5 warrants for Failure to Appear. On Friday, September 16 , Narcotics Agents with the help of a K9 Unit with DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a traffic stop on County Road 52, finding marijuana, controlled pills and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Robert Banther (39 of Fort Payne) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2 nd and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On Sunday, September 18, the Henagar Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 40, finding the driver to be in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, controlled pills and drug paraphernalia. Shawn Douglas Brown (25 of Rainsville) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x2), Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On Wednesday, September 28, the DeKalb County Narcotics Unit conducted a search warrant at a residence on Hwy 75 in Henagar finding methamphetamine, marijuana, controlled pills and drug paraphernalia. Cheryl Denise Rhodes (45 of Henagar) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Also on September 28, DeKalb County Deputies conducted a search warrant at a residence on Road 9046. Upon arrival, Deputies located Omar Antonio Arevalo (27 of Crossville) who was wanted out of Marshall County. After a search, Arevalo was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Arevalo was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Probation Violation. On Friday, September 30, DeKalb County Narcotics Agents, along with DeKalb County Investigations Unit, went to an address on County Road 138 in the Henagar area. Stolen property was recovered, as well as, methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia being found. Shannon Denise Coley (45 of Henagar) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1 st . Ryan Keith Shirley (43 of Rossville, GA) was charged with Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Authorities are continuing to investigate this case and more charges could be pending. Gadsden Man Arrested For Destructive Device, Burglary and Theft A Gadsden man has been charged with Possession of a destructive device, Burglary 3rd and, Theft of property 4th. According to Etowah County Sheriff Jonathon Horton, on October 12, 2022 a neighbor saw someone enter a residence on North Oak Road in the Tidmore Bend Community. Deputies responded and upon a search around the residence a male identified as Jeremie Wayne Carr (age 30) was located inside a bedroom. There was a device found in the possession of Mr. Carr and was turned over to the Gadsden Bomb Squad. Mr. Carr was detained and later taken to the Sheriff's Office for questioning. Mr. Carr admitted to Investigators that he had been inside the home on several occasions, performing sexual acts on himself, and taking the victims belongings. He has been charged with Burglary, Theft of Property and Possession of a Destructive Device. Carr was booked into the Etowah County Jail on $15,000 in bonds. This case is still ongoing and further charges may be pending. Several Arrested On Drug Charges
A recent investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, the 9th Circuit District Attorney’s Office and Sylvania Police Department has led to the arrest of Jerry Jason McKee, age 46, of Sylvania. According to local authorities, McKee was arrested at his residence on Blue Pond Blvd. in Sylvania and charged with Sodomy 1st (x6), Child Abuse (x2) and Sexual Abuse 1st (x4). His bond was set for $640,000. “These cases are tough on every end to work and require lots of time and precise information to acquire a solid case," said DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden. "It’s great to have the support and assistance from the District Attorney’s Office on these types of crimes against the youth," noted Welden.
