LOVE AT FIRST … SMILE?

Wi n Hea r t s Wi t h The Bes t Accesso r y

It’s Valentine’s Day, and whether you’re ready to woo your spouse or are still seeking that one and only, you cannot underestimate the power of a smile. A Kelton Research study found 38 percent of people wouldn’t go on a second date with someone who had crooked teeth. That’s bad news for romantic hopefuls with stained, broken, or missing teeth, who probably won’t get a kiss at the end of the night. This lines up with a 2013 survey from Match.com, which found men and women both rank teeth as the most important trait they judge a potential partner on. A good smile added more weight than hair, clothes, and even grammar to how likely participants were to feel interested in a potential match.

Does this mean possible life partners fall in love with our teeth? Well, not exactly. But we cannot underestimate how important our teeth are to a physical trait people do fall in love with — our smile. Dr. Alex Jones, psychologist from Swansea University in Wales, calls a person’s smile “the best accessory.” This came after university psychologists conducted a study and discovered that, when a person smiles, they are perceived as healthier and even “glowing” — proof a genuine smile makes you more attractive. Let’s not forget the power of a confident smile. When a person is self-conscious about their teeth, they tend to cover their mouth when they talk or laugh and may try to avoid smiling

altogether. This behavior can be perceived as secretive and suspicious. A happy, genuine smile makes others more comfortable, encouraging them to open up and enjoy themselves, too! Sometimes, simple teeth whitening is all you need to transform your smile. Our Zoom! In- Office Whitening System can help with that. Other times, crown, veneers, and implants may be called for to fix broken or missing teeth. Whatever you need to achieve a smile you’ll love, we can help.
