Showcasing the Science: CAUTI Poster Presentation

In June 2022, NYU Langone Health sponsored its 25th Annual Nursing Re- search Conference. The North Central Bronx (NCB) Hospital Nursing Educa- tion team submitted a poster entitled "PREVENTION OF CAUTI (Zero Harm): ENHANCING CLINICAL COMPETENCY OF NURSING STAFF." The team comprised of the Director Mario Bustamante, Senior Educator Per- sha Gayle, Staff Nurse Mariet Duporte - Arthurton, and Assistant Coordinating Manager Kyle Massab, who were there as presenters. Several questions were raised regarding the buddy system implemented at all NYC Health and Hospi- tal facilities that were highly compliant. The team identified an enhanced competency in preventing CAUTIs through a practical approach. The nursing staff at NCB Hospital have acquired a greater understanding and skill concern-

ing caring for patients with indwelling Foley catheters due to the program. To ensure nursing staff is given protective time to participate in simulation training, nursing leadership and high - level management must support it. It is crucial to set up a planned and organized schedule so that the Unit Leaders have enough time to register their staff. For the best practices to prevent CAUTI to remain effective, annual compe- tency - based validation is essential, as well as continuous surveillance for quality and performance improvement. Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk - Ph.D., APRN - CNP, FAANP, FNAP, FAAN, a nationally and globally recognized nurse scientist for her clinical knowledge and innovative approaches to healthcare challenges, was the speaker at this event. Dr. Melnyk delivered the keynote address entitled "Achieving Healthcare's Quadruple Aim with Evidence - Based Practice, Research, and Clinical Wellbeing: Key Tactics for Success." As a result, the importance of nursing and research was further amplified.
