Abstract: This study examines the role of algorithms and their mechanisms in reproducing competing narratives and constructing stories within a digital space governed by invisible networks of interests, biases and monetised symbolic systems. It addresses a central question concerning the epistemic algorithmic structures that have begun redefining the symbolic conditions of existence for both the Palestinian and Israeli narratives: How do algorithms of silence and echo influence the reproduction of these conflicting narratives and the shaping of global public opinion on Instagram during the war on Gaza? The study employs a descriptive-analytical method grounded in critical discourse analysis, along with both quantitative and qualitative content analysis. It is based on a comprehensive survey of Instagram posts by Palestinian journalist Bisan Owda (24 posts) and Israeli activist Yosef Haddad (250 posts) during the period from 18 March to 30 April 2025. The results reveal a structural gap in the representation of the two narratives. The Palestinian narrative relied on a humanistic and dramatic discourse, featuring realistic and documented images of civilian victims, while the Israeli narrative focused on aggressive, propagandistic language and national or military symbols. Algorithms contributed to amplifying fast, emotional and propagandistic content while marginalising meaning-dense narratives. Thus, the platform does not function as a neutral medium, but rather as a cultural and political actor that re-encodes narratives according to the logic of instant interaction, thereby engineering perception itself. This process imposes a new definition of what can be told and what is "worthy of narration". The Palestinian narrative, therefore, is not merely marginalised but forcibly reformulated within a framework that cannot accommodate layered storytelling or multifaceted pain.
