She seemed a little sad, in spite of her outward demeanor. “ Y ou?” “ Yes. Things have gone wrong with some of Father’s investments. Mother’s law yer came Monday to tell us. W e’re as poor as Job’s turkey now. Mother’s going to start taking in a few boarders next week.” They were in the parlor near the piano. She was, in fact, sitting on the piano bench, the light from the floor lamp playing on her soft, brown curls. He thought she looked more lovely tonight than ever be fore, yet somehow tired and so very femi nine. She needed protection— a man’s pro tection. His shoulders squared a little. Then he thought of her faith. “ How about the ‘all things’ ?” k “ I refuse to worry,” she said. “ It has to be so. It’s in the Book.” Yes, it was in the Book. And it was in Mary Louise’s heart. It had to be so. “When do we get married?”“ "? “ I don’t know. But I think it’s going to be lots of fun now, helping you work things out, helping us save enough to get married on. I’m almost glad about the in vestments’ blowing up. I feel as if I’ve been let down into the trenches with you to help you in the battle.” His eyes were moist when she finished. What a rare little treasure she was! When he told her good-night at the door, the un derstanding was that they would go to church together tomorrow night. And then he was gone. It didn’t matter now that he had lost his job, nor that his present job was shovel ing coal. He wasn’t ashamed. They were in the trenches together. They were active ly trusting God together. They would go over the top together. Everything would come out all right. It didn’t have to be all right now, as long as the promise was true ; and it was. Came a warm twilight on a day in June, with roses and music and happiness every where. Thriller in the parlor of the Haynes’ home was pouring forth his most brilliant melodies. The minister had said the final words; the guests had gone home. The bride and groom stood facing each other in the quiet, flower-decked room. “ Shall I play for you?” she asked. She went to the piano. Rich, full chords sprang forth at her touch: “Just a song at twilight—” He came to sit beside her and they sang the song through to its end—together. When they had finished and while his hands lay possessively upon hers over the keyboard, she said, “ I’m so glad we waited until June to be married, aren’t you? It seems so much nicer.” “ It does.” He arose then and drew her to her feet. “ Shall we start on our honey moon trip right away?” A little later he said, “ The Superintend-

ent has offered me a foreman’s job in the stock room at a ten dollar raise, when I get back.” “ Another raise? Why didn’t you tell me?” “ I forgot it,” he said, and she was glad he had. A prospective husband should for get a few things the week before the wedding. [The End] breakfast. An old lady, now a great-grand mother, was asked what she thought the best time. Her reply was, “ Have it early in the day. Don’t let the devil have his chance at the, children first. ‘Seek ye first the kingdom of God.’ ” There is good wisdom in that remark. Another correspondent writes: “W e can be of much help one to another by talking things over.” That is true, friends. So, you who prayerfully are rearing your children to know the Lord, become readers of and contributors to the CHRISTIAN PARENTS’ FELLOWSHIP, will you? God bless you every one. the month eighty-five meetings were con ducted, with a total attendance of more than 3,000— counting every boy or girl each day that he or she was present. I f a child is properly evangelized, he will be the aggressor in. accepting Christ as Saviour. Christ said, “ Suffer [j. e., let ] little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me.” If the evangelist waits until childhood is past, he must be the aggressor, urging and beseeching men and women to be re conciled to God, only to find that a vast number will never accept Christ. “ Say not ye, There are yet four months, and the'n cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” “Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.” Short Stories for Young People Because she has an unusual technique of telling true incidents, Mrs. Alverta Dundas is a well-known speaker and writer for children and young people. Her booklet of 27 pages, “ God Answers Prayer,” which may be secured for ten cents, is a series of true stories as told to girls at a Christian camp. The answers to prayer which are related are most convincing, and will appeal to young girls. An 8-page booklet, “Johnny Which,” obtainable for five cents, is a story on tithing for junior children.
