Tasmanian Hospitality Review: February/March 2025

Great Customer Experience Program

South Update

Chris and Tori wanted to do a neighbourhood community style venue, where people enjoy the slower pace of the suburbs and the beach. Both Hobart locals, that love the sunny side of the eastern shore, and coffee passionate - a background in the speciality coffee industry for 10 years and simply loving how it brings people together - was the inspiration for Tidal Coffee. The relaxed atmosphere for friends, families and dogs has gathered great crowds since opening day, the bike riders and runners all dropping in for coffee alongside, great local produce ready to grab and go for lunch breakfast and lunch seven days. Our GCE team have supported Chris and Tori with a Business Health Check prior to opening which identified other opportunities they can jump onto, to help Tidal Coffee operate as a best practise business. The ongoing support of the GCE team will also include free training of new staff as the business grows.

The Great Customer Experience program is available to all of industry from the very get go of starting a business. We want to start the relationship and support with new businesses prior to the venue opening, and in the Southern area recently this includes several new projects in development; Bird in Hand Vineyard at the Botanical Gardens, Seven Mile Golf and the recently opened Tidal Coffee at Seven Mile Beach.

North Update

As we kickstart another new year, it is time to celebrate the outstanding individuals and teams who are setting the standard for exceptional customer service across our industry. A huge shoutout goes to Jason from Easy Tiger, Toddy from Bridport Bay Inn and Greg from Blue Waters & Scamander Beach Resort! These venue owners came together recently for a joint VXT Senior Staff Supervisors Course, where 10 dedicated team members received a valuable skills upgrade in leadership and customer service. The day was packed with hands-on learning, insightful discussions, and practical strategies for elevating service in preparation for the busy festive season. Whether it’s delivering smiles, streamlining operations, or simply going above and beyond, these hospitality professionals were ready to make this holiday season unforgettable for their customers. Their dedication to growth is proof that investing in staff skills directly translates into an enhanced customer experience.

Tori Burnie and Chris Brent have been working on this project since 2022, and construction started in September 2024 on land between the Hobart Airport and Westland Nursery. A swag of local small businesses supported this project:
