We’ve got one vineyard, and we just roll with what the season gives us. A lot of bigger wineries with vineyards in multiple parts of the state have different blending tools and blending components, so if it wasn’t such a good year for the East Coast but the Tamar Valley fruit looked really good, they’ve got more tools in their toolbox. “We’re just always working with one site and exactly what we’ve got and to be able to create such a layered – and that’s the type of wines that win at wine shows, wines with an incredible amount of layers and complexity – to be able to have made a wine from “To come out on top is just mind blowing. “To get to get a gold medal to us is just very validating on its own, so that’s a huge achievement on its own, but when you get a trophy, it’s essentially the top gold in that category and then to go on and get the best wine of show, which our Pinot did, that’s just like, it’s incomprehensible to me, really. It’s a huge, huge, achievement. A lot of discussion goes into that wine, and even the best Pinot Noir, because that’s a huge class for Tasmania, it’s a really important category for Tasmania. “There was a lot of discussion happening between the judges to get that accolade and then for them to say, okay, that is better than the best sparkling and the best white wine, it’s just huge. It went against wines that we heavily respect, some brands and some winemakers that we admire and look up to, and to come out on top is just mind blowing. It’s just really humbling and such an achievement for us.” Making the achievement all the more satisfying for Sierra is the fact that Ghost Rock doesn’t have the resources and number of vineyards at its disposal compared to other winemakers across the state. It
