Sarasota Memorial Hospital – Venice Doubles in Size and Continues to Grow Since opening its doors in 2021, Sarasota Memorial Hospital – Venice has provided the south county community with access to the health system’s nationally recognized top-quality care, offering a full range of services. Sarasota Memorial’s investment in south Sarasota County has proven to be critical: SMH-Venice stepped up to fill the gap in care when the privately owned Shorepoint Venice Hospital abruptly closed in 2022, shortly before Hurricane Ian struck the region and caused a large surge in patients. SMH-Venice and SMH-Sarasota were among the few hospitals in the Southwest Florida region to remain fully open and operational before, during and after Hurricane Ian, as well as Hurricane Milton in 2024. To continue meeting the needs of the fast-growing region, SMH-Venice doubled its capacity in 2024, and now includes 212 private patient suites, 61 emergency care treatment rooms, and expanded surgical and radiology services. New Services Planned for Campus Plans are under way to open an inpatient rehabilitation facility at SMH-Venice in 2028 to provide the highest level of care to patients recovering from illness and injury. In 2027, an outpatient endoscopy and digestive health center will open adjacent to the Venice campus to treat the growing number of patients undergoing gastrointestinal procedures. • Like the SMH-Sarasota Campus, SMH-Venice has earned numerous honors for its care, including 5 stars for quality from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, and the highest “A” grade for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital watchdog organization.
