2022 Report - Wheat • In the South of England, the wheat harvest was gathered in perfect weather conditions. Rain in August is often the thing that spoils our otherwise good crops but with none falling this year from start to finish, both the visual appearance and tested qualities of our wheat are excellent. • Top grade Group 1 milling wheat at 13% protein will remain in tight supply domestically as many of the Group 1 samples fell below this level. However, this means a higher-than-normal availability of 11/11.5 protein cargoes (UKP) all with high kiloweights and Hagbergs. As these cargoes will be derived from Group 1 types, they will have exceptional useability in continental flour grists this year. • Soft Wheat samples (UKS) are of similar high quality but suffer from lower availability as the grown acreage has shrunk dramatically in recent years.
