MY SON ROCKED MY COSTUME 33 YEARS LATER! THE JOKE THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

2022 OCT

The year I turned a year old, my parents made a chiropractor joke with my Halloween costume.

Amazingly, she was right! I swear my mom never throws away a thing. Stuffed animals, toys, crayon drawings, my first baby blanket … she still has all of it. It didn’t take much investigating before she pulled out the 33-year-old Halloween costume from who knows where. Somehow, the fabric hadn’t fallen apart in the box. And it fit Bennett! Marah and I squeezed him into the outfit and carried our little skeleton from business to business during our church’s Halloween party. Every year, the church closes down Main Street for a Halloween celebration. The fire department shows up to hand out candy, and folks wander from house to house and business to business with their kids to pick up treats. Marah and I are already looking forward to taking Bennett to the party again this year. We won’t have to carry him this time: He’s old enough to run around and collect candy on his own two feet. If I’m lucky, someone will give him a box of Nerds or a little bag of sour gummies, and I’ll be able to sneak it out of his bag when he isn’t looking. Marah and I already know exactly how we plan to spend Halloween, but we still haven’t chosen a costume for Bennett. Right now, I’m leaning toward dressing him up as a tiny farmer. He loves farm animals, and he’s never happier than when he’s toddling through the grass on a farm or touching sheep at the petting zoo. I think he’d like the idea of being a farmer for the night. It’s crazy to think that one day soon, Bennett will be old enough to choose his own Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat without us. I hope he has as much fun as I did when I was a kid. My friends and I ran from house to house in my hometown filling our bags with a ridiculous amount of candy. Then, we took the spoils back to my friend’s place and stayed up way too late trading our favorite candies. Looking back, those negotiations were probably my very first business deals. I have dozens of great Halloween memories, and I can’t wait to make more with my family this year. If you want to get into the Halloween spirit, I know exactly where you should start: by decorating your office! It’s fun and it’s good business. Turn to Page 3 to learn why.

Instead of dressing me up as a pumpkin or tiny superhero, they popped me into a black onesie decorated with white bones and put a white cap on my head. I looked like a little skeleton!

All of their chiropractor friends thought it was hilarious. My

parents were both chiropractors at the time, and they didn’t even need to dress up to be on theme. The story came up last year when I was talking to my mom about how Marah and I would dress Bennett for his first Halloween. “You don’t have a costume picked out?” she asked. “Let me see if I can dig up your skeleton outfit — I know I still have it somewhere.”

Happy Halloween from my family to yours,

Hungry for Health The Shift Toward Plant- Based Eating

Now in Sto Band by DN Your Patients W Wearable Light T

For years, we’ve run into three major problems when trying to find wearable light therapy devices worth selling to chiropractors like you. THE PROBLEMS 1. The devices aren’t backed by science, and/or they don’t offer proven results when it comes to reducing stiffness, pain, and inflammation.

The appetite for plant-based foods isn’t slowing down — in fact, it’s rising. According to a 2021 Bloomberg report, by 2030, the plant-based food industry is projected to hit $162 billion! Eating plant-based means finding food sources that originate mainly from plants, inherently focusing on fresh produce, whole grains, beans, legumes, seeds, and nuts. Let’s explore the benefits of eating plant-based! PLANT-BASED KEEPS YOUR HEART HEALTHY. According to studies posted in the Journal of the American Heart Association, consuming a diet high in plant-based foods may lower the risk of heart attacks and cardiovascular disease. Meat contains saturated fat, which studies show increases the risk of heart problems. But, it’s also important to make sure that your plant-based choices are heart friendly too! Load up on fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and legumes and avoid refined grains, fatty foods, and sugary beverages!

2. The devices aren’t affordable, so you can’t sell them successfully to patients.

3. The devices are made overseas by unreliable manufacturers.

Even the best products always seem to have at least one of these weak spots. But finally, after years of searching, we’ve found one that solves all three problems: the Jazz Band by DNA Vibe! THE SOLUTION The Jazz Band is a cutting-edge, wearable light therapy device that delivers relief through four complementary modes: red, near-infrared, pulsed magnetic, and micro- vibration. These modes work in harmony to reduce inflammation, stiffness, and pain, while accelerating recovery — and 97% of users report improvement.

PLANT-BASED LOWERS YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE. Plant-based diets are linked to lower blood pressure, which greatly reduces the risk for strokes, cardiovascular disease, and Type 2 diabetes. The risk of hypertension, or high blood pressure, increases in people who consume large amounts of animal products such as meat and dairy. Even just limiting the amount of meat and dairy in your diet is proven to make a difference! PLANT-BASED MAY REDUCE YOUR RISK OF CANCER. The nutrients present in plant-based foods reduce the risk of getting several types of cancer. Plant-based foods contain phytochemicals, which shield the cells in your body from damage and have awesome anti-inflammatory properties. So, load up on those legumes, whole grains, fruits, and veggies — your body will thank you!

PLANT-BASED CAN HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT. Typically, plant-based foods are lower in calorie density than meats and other animal products, thus, you can fill up on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains without the same calorie burden you may experience from other sources of food. With all of the health-based advantages of shifting toward a plant-based diet, more people are catching on and making the switch or reducing their meat intake. What’s on your plate?

3 Reasons to Decorate Your Office

ock: The Jazz NA Vibe! Will Love This Therapy Device

You might think it’s silly to string up paper bats in your waiting room or stick jack-o’-lantern decals to your treatment room windows. But studies show that decorating your workspace actually has benefits for both your team and your patients. For Halloween and the Other Holidays!

Even better, the Jazz Band can adjust to fit any part of the body, including the knee, neck, back, shoulder, elbow, ankle, hand, or foot. It’s incredibly versatile and easy to use for everyone from athletes to grandparents. The Jazz Band is also affordably priced (just $249 retail!) and made in Colorado. It’s a win-win-win. THE DETAILS Perry Kamel, the founder and CEO of DNA Vibe, is a veteran with a passion for creating technology that helps others. To boost direct-to- patient sales, he recommends that chiropractors stock Jazz Bands in their waiting rooms for patients to use before each appointment.

Here are three reasons to get into the Halloween spirit this year if you haven’t already.

1. You’ll strengthen your relationship with existing patients. Do you want to come across as a stiff, boring, unrelatable person — or someone who is fun, warm, and approachable? The latter, right? Decorating for the holidays paints a warm and fuzzy picture of you/your business and leads to more personal conversations. The more you build those relationships with your patients, the more excited they will be to come see you and refer their friends and family to your practice. 2. You’ll attract more new patients. If you post pictures of your decorated office on social media, you’ll give prospects the impression your office is a fun, upbeat place — the kind of place where they’d like to get treatment! (You’ll score bonus points if you include happy staff and patients in the photos.) You can also use outdoor decorations to boost your office’s curb appeal. Drivers might not notice a plain gray office building, but they will notice — and remember — a 10-foot-tall blowup skeleton! Next time that driver needs a chiropractor, your company’s name will pop into their head.

“The patient will get an introduction to the Jazz Band, have a positive experience, then go in for treatment and have a better treatment outcome with less pain and stiffness,” he explains. This strategy will also keep your patients on time for their appointments — and once they experience the Jazz Band in action, they’ll want one of their own. As one doctor put it, “The Jazz Band Live continues to impress me and my patients. I’ve been a physical therapist for 31 years and this is one of my favorite tools of all time. I am selling them as quickly as I let people try them!”

3. You’ll boost your team’s morale. Decorating for the holidays is a lot of fun, and it’s something your team can look forward to each year. Not only will arranging pumpkins give them a break from the daily grind, but working surrounded by reminders of happy childhood memories will also keep them positive and productive through the season.

Holiday decorations are such a mood booster that one psychotherapist — author Amy Morin — thinks even work-from- home employees should decorate. “Studies have found nostalgia can help you find more meaning in life, bolster your sense of social connection, and provide an antidote to collective angst,” she wrote for Business Insider in 2020. “And who doesn’t need those things right now?”

HAVE A LAUGH!

Good luck — and happy decorating!

Once you’ve got your footing, taking on a leadership position is key, but it’s important to make sure you don’t come off too strong too early either! It’s all about finding that balance and remembering that you never stop learning. SPEAK UP DURING MEETINGS. During team and company meetings, be sure to contribute whenever possible. If you want to move up in the rankings, find your voice and contribute!

potential of your job position, you need to be willing to do a little more than the job description requires. Even though a supervisor may ask you to do a little more, taking the initiative to ensure your job is done well gets you noticed — even if that means doing something requiring extra effort!
