We report a photocatalytic synthesis of α-heteroaryl amines by direct heteroarylation at the α-C–H bond of unprotected primary alkylamines using dual photoredox and HAT catalysis. Building upon our previous work on the synthesis of γ-lactams 1 and γ-arylamines 2 from unprotected primary amines, we have now developed a simple methodology for α-C–H heteroarylation that is amenable to both batch and flow chemistry. Using identical starting materials to the classical S N Ar reaction for N -aryl bond formation, this reaction allows for divergent access to discrete regions of chemical space from the same reagents.
